Haven't been out much with all the rain. Thought I would try today to find some hungry Stripers and/or Bass. Marked lots of bait and had one hit that could have been a Striper, but didn't stay on long enough to really tell. Was trying bucktails, jerkbaits, swimbaits, Red Eye Shad, and jigging spoon. Caught a couple LM on the spoon, but not very big ones. Marked some large fish that were probably stripers, but they did not want to play today.

Been wanting to try float n fly for smallies, so headed out to a nearby bluff to give it a go. I had an old 10' crappie rod rigged up, and had some custom flies from Randall, and even a specially weighted float, so I was good to go. 1st cast i was looking at the landing area and didn't look up, fly and float stuck in a cedar limb on the side of the bluff. emoBang emoBang Re-rig and finally get the fly in the water. Oops my float is gone, duh, that is a bite dummy. Bear in mind this is my first time with the float n fly thing. Lost that fish, felt pretty good too. Another cast, I am getting better at that at least, lol. Jiggle the float a little as the current moves it along the face of the bluff and bam! the float is gone again, I finally manage to set the hook and after a short fight land my first float n fly bass. A nice fat little spot. Was fishing in 40-50' of water with the fly down about 10'. A little later got a smallie about 15 inches in the same area.

The equipment is a bit cumbersome at first, but you soon get used to it. Will give it another try soon. Not much catching in this report, but learned a bit about a new to me technique.

Regards, Labman
