I'm hoping to get out this weekend in the Preston area. Anyone been out on the frozen stuff sense the winter monsune? wanting to know if a plank will work or if i am SOL

I haven't been as far over as Preston. I looked at Hawkins and it had about 15 to 20 ft to the ice sheet. There was a one inch thin ice layer around the edges. I don't think a plank would have done it. The Preston reservoirs are at a slightly lower elevation so I am expecting they might be similar. It also depends on how much more water has come in with the rain.
You could try calling the sports stores in Preston or Logan.
You might be able to wade out through the thin stuff in a shallow area on some of the reservoirs. I just wouldn't try to walk on it. This is what someone did trying to walk out at Hawkins.

Was up around preston saturday and you could get to the ice with a pair of waders or an extension ladder but water was pumping in pretty fast from the inlet and there was a good couple inches of slush on top with standing water in places. If it were me I would find some open water and avoid taking a dip through the ice unless we get some really good cold weather.

Same at Alexander, the edges are getting soft. Ive been wearing a life jacket on sketchy ice and I have a rope that is attached to the back of my sled that trails behind for someone to help if I fall in, plus a long rope in my sled for someone to throw to me. Everyone be carefull we dont want a fellow fisherman to fall in and drown.
Has anyone heard of Ice fishing clothes that are warm, keep water out and are a floatation divice? That would be a good invention if they aren't already available.
