Ok, so these are not exactly what I would call bragging fish out of Cascade but they are my largest so far in 2012 and they sure looked big coming out of the hole. I figured they at least deserved a post since there seems to be much interest in that pond. I fished yesterday out by Sugarloaf with everybody else. It was fairly slow but I kept moving to different spots and finally got into them after drilling at least 25 holes. These were right around 14" and I caught some smaller 11"-12" guys but there are much larger fish being caught up there and I hope to provide some photos soon. My largest last year was 15.5". The ice was fine - no slush - but it did take a lot of augering to punch through.

oh wait i take that back except for you. i havent heard of any else filling a bucket this year. i overheard the locals say its been slow and our posts. i guess our names explain our specialties. youve done the best this year.

Perchalong - you crack me up. I've stopped by your biz a few times but I guess you've been out causing trouble or fishing....whatever happens first I'm guessing. Who do you like next weekend? I'll take the Giants if you give me five pointers on how to catch fish.

Smallies - this guy fills up bucket after bucket of huge perch and is a master of understatement. My money is on him to catch the next state record but I'm planning on catching it first because of all the agony it would cause. Don't those perch remind you of smallmouth?

UT,

Thanks to your advice we got into 9 of those by 1:00, then the wind blew us off the lake. Anyway, thanks for the pointers on the perch and the other thing (you know what I'm talking about). You know how to get'er done!

Dude, Dude, You're not getting one!

I wish I would have ice fished when I lived in Boise. Hopefully I can get back over that way some time. Those are some great perch. Anything over 12" is a monster for me. Those are some great looking perch!

Holy Moley that’s a nice bunch of perch.

I haven’t fished up there in 20 years. Then itseemed like it was nothing but tiny perch, flathead cats and an occasional trout that was a little too occasional. At that point had no desire to go back, guess it’s time to give it another try!

1/31 Well the short story is I got skunked!! Thanks for the advise guys and I did follow it but came up short. Only three bites all day and my brother missed them all. Talked with a dozen other folks and they had the same results as we did. Still had a good time fishing with my brother and the weather was perfect for it. The new Nils ice auger worked great. Little concerned that it lost it's edge after only 30 holes. Guess I'll need a few heads and just keep them rotating.

Avery's,

Where did you go? How deep were you fishing? I know a guy who went to Sugarloaf yesterday. He tried all over, but finally got into them around 1PM in 9 FOW. He got 47 in a just a short time once he found them. He got 13 that were in the 2 lbs range. and the remaining 34 pretty much filled up a 5 gallon bucket. I'd be interested to know the details of your trip.

Bummer Dude. That pond can be real hit and miss - some folks are just killing them right now but I didn't see many fish caught the last time I was there. I also noticed that the my Nils is cutting a little slower but I'm hoping it may be the ice and not the blades. It sounds like you have to wander the 9-10' flats until you find them which requires no small effort.

Yeah we stayed out on the flats all day in 8-10' FOW and methodically searched for them. Nice to have a auger that I can actually do that now. Did find a few small pockets out there that went 12-13' FOW. The only guy I didn't talk with must have been the guy you talked with buggy. We watch him come around the north end of the island fishing. (sorry had to edit this part out - pm me) Just wasn't our day to catch fish. But I got to spend a beautiful day outside with my brother and that made it all worth it. I'll get them next time. LOL

And a big thanks to all the folks that send me pm's with info, much appreciated!
