A group of us decided to give one of these derbies a try. The derby started at 8 a.m. and after I had gotten my first few poles in the water I hooked into a nice one (24.33 inches official score). I waited a few hours and strolled over to the check in table and was pleased that my fish was in first place. I was even more pleased to learn that first place was $750. For the rest of the day they would call out the leader board over 2 way radios and my fish was still in the lead. Then with about an hour left in the derby someone brought in a slightly bigger fish. I was still excited because second place was $450. With ten minutes left someone brought in an even bigger fish, pushing me to third. I still ended up with a $300. Then to top the day off I won a ice fishing pole reel combo in the raffle drawing. Overall it was a blast and we caught some really nice fish today. Not every day you earn $300 while ice fishing [
