Spent about 4 hours on the shore of Grantsville Reservoir this Saturday. It was a beautiful day....sun shining, wide open waters...and not a single bite the entire time! People were catching them out on their boats, but my dad and I on shore were throwing all sorts of presentations out there (dough bait/power bait/salmon eggs/jigs/spinners) without any interested takers.

What works for you on these waters? Will you share your trade secrets? Getting skunked is lame beyond words...

Grantsville is one of those put and take fisheries. I doubt it's been stocked recently so there aren't going to be many fish to begin with. In the winter food is scarce. Fish will congregate at certain depths or parts of the lake where food is present, and sometimes in the winter that means deep. It's really no secret, you just have to fish where the fish are! A boat with a fish finder can be a great tool for locating fish and that could explain why they were catching some. If you're not getting bites in a particular location you should pack up and move.

That's kind of what we were afraid of. We did move twice, and on the way back to the car discovered that the people that took over fishing where we left had caught multiple fish. That's frustrating. Guess its time to get a boat...

Heck, I have found even with a boat and sonar, it is tough to know WHAT they want. Good luck in the future. I wouldn't mind getting out there. I do pretty well with Chronomids, but like mentioned, no food could mean no fish.

Stupid question...what's a Chronomid?

In entomolgy, it is a Pupa. The early underwater stages of flying insects, which we are all familiar with in the warmer months. They are in ALL waters and are a main food source year round.

In fishing terms, it is a scud bent hook with or with out a bead, somewhite antron or a white bead will represent gills and the body....just thread and wire rib. Or V-rib tubing, or a bunch of other materials.[Wink]
Anyway, small wormie bug with white gills at the head.

This tells a little more about them by the master him self:

You basically fish them under an indicator/bobber and suspend them off the bottom. When I shore fish I guess the depth at where I will be fishing...works pretty good.

Oh my gosh...that is really amazing! I'm going to have to try it...Thanks for the great info!
