I called Eric last night to see if he had anything to do today and he said he had nada to do. So, I invited him to accompany me to Parksville in search of Yellow Perch that undoubtedly will spawn sometime before the Mayan end of the world prediction. They weren't doing it today. But we had fun and a barrel of laughs. I was determined to fish with artificial lures today and stuck to my guns even though Eric was dragging in bluegill after bluegill at the beginning. emoBang emoBigSmile

Then finally, I had a TARP sized Yellow Perch try to steal my artificial trout worm and into the livewell she went after pics and measurements. emoFish Now I'm in the game and my confidence soared to tremendous heights. I was beginning to think that the fish in Parksville lake had sworn off artificial lures. emoBigSmile

We moved around on a structure and patiently fished for most of the time that we stayed up there today. We started about 10:30 and quit shortly after 2:00 pm. Early on, it was calm and temp was nice. Then the wind picked up and it got chilly. But the water temp was 50.7 degrees on my unit.

I was lucky enough to land a huge shellcracker that was 12.0 inches long. If you fanned its tail, it was almost 12.25 inches, but we just stayed with the straight tail 12.0 that you see in the pic. It only weighed 1.1 on digital scales. It weighed about 1.2 on Eric's scales, but they aren't digital, but spring loaded.

Our total catch for the day was 7 yellow perch (2 keepers), 1 tarp shellcracker, 8 or 9 bluegills, and Eric landed a nice tree limb that we threw back. It wasn't big enough to clean. emoPoke emoBigSmile emoGeezer I kept the boat in about 10 to 15 feet of water mostly and we threw our baits up into very shallow water and worked down the slope of the structure.

Let's do this again really soon, Eric. You need to get out more often. Go get a new battery for your boat and give me a call. emoPoke
