Anyone been to Pineview lately? How thick is the ice? Can I take a four wheeler? Any fishing reports?

I'm surprised I haven't seen a recent post on Pineview for quite a while. Hoping to take the kids out tomorrow and want to see how its been out there. Thanks.

Temps here in the Valley have been flirting with single digits all week until this morning with the cloud cover and 25 degrees at 5 AM. Afternoon highs have been upper 30s - low 40s.

Other posts are boasting safe ice but I haven't seen any machines on the ice. That's not to say I haven't heard about them out there though. No snow cover since the warm spell when the snow got soaked with rain and runoff. Now all that slush has refroze but there appears to be a pressure ridge all around the shoreline. Ice is piled up like the lake level is dropping but I haven't seen any release of water into the river below the dam. River is damn near dry.

Open water west of the bouys near the dam so I don't think I'd be taking my wheeler into the Narrows this year. Speaking of the Narrows, that part of the lake has been getting hit hard on weekends and there are a few cars there every afternoon when I come home from work. Browning Point is seeing light pressure all week long as well.

Either the fishing is off this year or many of the folks fishing it are keeping the secret to themselves? Haven't been out on PV yet this year but that may change this weekend. Be safe and wear your cleats! Skaters have one of the largest ice rinks in the world this year.

I fished Pineview last Sat. Went out from the boat ramp across towards Browning. People have been taking 4 wheelers out. The Edges might get iffy for a 4 wheeler later in the day, the rest of the ice is a good 12"; I talked to a guy who said it was 8" at the narrows (even though open water is at the bouys.

Catching was non existent (3rd time this year skunked at PV). Would see fish on the finder and on the camera but only had 3 bites and they were lite! Marked the most fish in 45-50' of water. I talked to about 12 other people and none had fish. Maybe a different part of the lake, not sure what to do.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reports. I think I'll leave the wheeler at home and try East Canyon or Utah Lake instead.

[#800000]If you go to East Canyon, quad access at the boat launch is excellent with plenty of ice thickness once on. I had mine up there on Monday and saw others running quads way over to the west side.[/#800000]

[#800000]As far as Pineview, I plan to have my quad and snowmobile on there tomorrow from the Port Ramp. If needed, we'll have a quad fold-up ramp with us for coming off but don't expect to need it going on.[/#800000]
