Looking to get a new finder. Looking for quality at the cheapest price, even if it's used [Smile]

I'd love to get some suggestions. It would be used for a pontoon boat[Smile]

Thanks all

[cool][#0000ff]A lot of us like the Humminbird products. Some of us have the dual beam Humminbird 565...which has been discontinued and the new model is the 561. The Humminbird Fishin Buddy series is popular too. But they do not usually show as much detail as some of the other models.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I am attaching a PDF file which will be part of the new Buyers Guide I am putting together. You may want to look up the websites for [url "http://www.humminbird.com/"]Humminbird[/url] and [url "http://www.lowrance.com/Products/Marine/"]Lowrance[/url]. Also, look at both the Cabelas and Basspro websites. They have a lot of sonars and good info on the various features.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Basically, from a tube or toon you want depth, temp guage and good fish identification. No need for speed readings or depth to a half mile. Having good grayscale helps with understanding bottom composition and structure. You have to play with them to learn how to read them.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]As a general rule, the higher the watts the better the display...in real time. Some of the least expensive units on the market are guilty of displaying lots of false fish readings, etc.[/#0000ff]

I have the real old 300T Humminbird with a lot of the features of the 500 series. Love that thing. In fact the screen cracked some how so I took it apart and bought a piece of plexiglass and repaired it.

Hey thanks guys! I was leaning towards the Humminbird 561 to begin with. I do have a question though. Say I go to Cabela's and drop the $150. Does that include the transducer and cable or is that just for the finder itself??

[cool][#0000ff]Everything you need is in the box. But if you have never set one up it can be a bit tricky. Most sonars are pretty simply plug and go. But these have an "unique" base install. If you live near SLC I would be happy to help you if you wanna visit my tubeatorium. Bring your toon and I can also help you figure out the best mounting spot.[/#0000ff]

An invite to the Tubetorium is like an invite to the white house if you're a tube/toon fisherman. I've been there and everyone should go when invited.

I agree everything should be in the box and it aint hard to figure out. In fact there are a lot of pics on here and youtube showing how others have done it.

Just beware, tubes/toons that enter the tubetorium end up contracting the PVC disease. Not leathal, but can be contageous.[laugh]

Hey thanks TD. I'll definitely take you up on the offer. It may be a few weeks as I need to save some more pennies, but soon enough[Smile]

Whitehouse? I'd say it's more analogous to Ripley's Believe it or not! Prepare to me amazed.

And don't forget to try the smoked carp on the way out!
