i decided to hit up deer creek saturday and braved the sketch ice in rainbow bay. got there at 7 oclock fished out in about 37 feet of water. fished everywhere for 2 hours no bites. couldnt get to my perch spot there cause there was a pressure ridge that was sketch and had water bubbling through it. so i decided to hit the island bay. i talked to the ranger up there,[nice lady] she said the fishing has been the best on the north side of the lake near charleston. but i wanted perch so i asked her if anyone had been getting any of them and she said no and kinda laughed. so i walked out near the island, ice ranged from 3 to 5 inches depending on how far out you went. started from 20 to 30 to 40 to 47 feet and then had a few bites so i decided to stay put. sat there for about ten minutes then my pole started getting a liitle nibble. iset the hook and it was fish on i reeled it all the up about 10 feet below the hole and it was off, felt like a smaller perch. had three more bites all day that were vary subtle. again a bite a hook set and this time it felt like a snag, it wasnt slamming like a trout it was just dead weight and i pumped him up about5 times when the chain on my halis jig broke and i never will know what it was, felt like an aye in my opinion and i have gotten in that spot before but who knows. i got the skunk at deer creek as my dad managed a nice 19 inch healthy bow, pretty nice like the ones out of starvy. well since i didnt do well there saturday it was a trip to tarvation in mind left at 5 am and reached the deer valley area and it was a white out and snowpacked roads, didnt feel like driving through it since i have bigger tires on the back of my tacoma and locking in the hubs would not be good for my transfer case,so utah lake was the place to i guess. arrived there at 9 am and fished the first dock and caught 12 wb 1 perch and 1 bluegill in two hrs. ice was good where it was but the open water had creeped in the harbor another 20 yrds from last week, give it a few more days of warm water an ill be tubin there. caught em all on ratfinkkes and halis tipped with waxworms. there is a small creek that flows next to the road when you pull in to afbh and goes into the lake on the north side of harbor, iwas curious if there were any fish in it since it was nice clean water, sure enough i look in this nice deep run and fish scattered everywhere, dont know what they were though.walked farther along the creek where it goes inthe lake and i see a big dead fish, at first i thought it was a walleye due to its large teeth but them i looke closer and it was a nice 22 inch plus brown, and man i have never seen teetch on a brown like that almost pike like. i guess you gotta be mean in that lake if your a trout. walked to that smae run and i saw those fish that scattered before but this time i approched slowly to get a good look, sure enough there were brown a few catfish and maybe either crappie aor gills in there pretty cool. next time im going to fish it with my spincaster. is that creek amerfican fork creek or what?
