[#000000]The weather on Sunday morning was pretty bad when I woke up. The fishing bug was still squirming though and I knew it would take me somewhere.

But where? The snowflakes were falling in clusters, stacking up quickly on the roads. [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

My tentative plan was to drill some holes at Deer Creek, although I still paused at the end of my cul-de-sac for a few last minute flip-flops. Safe new ice at Deer Creek won the toss and I turned left. [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

Headed toward the canyon, a flashing HWY sign read "4 X 4 or CHAINS REQUIRED". There are a couple of spots up there that can be pretty bad when it's slick, so I didn't want to take my chances in the Sentra. Parking at Canyon View Park near the mouth of the canyon, the Provo River would be my host for the day. [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

Starting just below the Murdock Diversion, I fished that immediate area for a couple of hours, missing many bites and only landing 2 smaller browns. [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

One of them was kind of pretty though and I took the opportunity to test my new camera (AW100) on a fish for the first time. [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

(Anxious to see what 16mp looked like, I cropped that pic later and got a look at the detail.) [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

It was also the first time I had thrown a Mepps in years. For some reason, I never caught very many fish on them in the past, but I've gotten a little handier with spinners since then. It was fun to try it again. [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

After I had my fill of the Murdock stretch, it was time to explore upstream. The next few hours were enjoyed earning a bite here and there. Most were smaller, but a few were actually worth a picture. [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

Check out the coals on this guy: [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

[Image: ProvoRiver003.jpg][/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

Another healthy sample: [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

[Image: ProvoRiver004.jpg][/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

The Mepps was doing its job and the river was loaded with large rocks to cast behind. The flow was also suitable for wading. A lot of fish gave chase, and some were brave enough to strike. [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

One hole really caught my eye, but I knew it would be hard to hit. Wading to within 10 feet of it, I gently tossed the Mepps forward, dropping right where I hoped it would and within a half-second of turning the reel, it got blasted. [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

The fact that a fish was there wasn't surprising, but the instant attack and subsequent battle really got my blood pumping. This fish hit hard and went straight into the current, taking drag about thirty feet downstream. [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

It wasn't huge, but it was a pretty nice brown for that part of the canyon and my biggest for the day. What a fighter too! Right after that pic, she managed to get away from me, Mepps and all. [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

[Image: ProvoRiver005.jpg][/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

My intentions were to let her go anyway, but I at least wanted the lure back (C&R day). She was definitely over 18", but I didn't tape her. [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

All in a good day's fun though. Thanks to the early storm (it cleared up pretty well), the river was mine for the taking and I only saw two three other people, walking the trail. [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

[Image: ProvoRiver008.jpg][/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

Without the Mepps, I dug through my boxes and found my last gold Blue Fox, my usual go-to. Like usual, it also got some attention and a couple more fish were caught between some misses and follows. [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

[Image: ProvoRiver016.jpg][/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

The past few times I fished the river, I really wasn't "feeling it" the way I should have and never really got my fix. This time was better though. It felt good to just keep wading upstream until the light was dim. It was a peaceful day on a quiet river. [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

Happy Fishing, Humans. [/#000000][#000000] [/#000000][#000000]

Ah Duuude! You're my hero. Another great post, more great fish, nice story, purdeee pix.

Mepps, Mepps, Mepps!

I used to be big on Mepps back when. Had one I'd loved SO much my treble became a single. And after enough flavoring - the fringes had turned to a gooey stuck together mess.
Heard a suggestion to use fabric softener to clean the tassle on the hook. And lo-ah behold. it worked. Got some more flings out of it.

With some new split-ring plyers I finally found I gave it a new hook, and practicing a bit of tassle-tying of my own, gave it a whole new lease on life. Nothing wrong with the spinner blade!

Always hate to loose a lure, but then always love to find one. Last trip out - nabbed a cute little Goby swimbait. Now I gotta get out and give it a try!

That IS a nice camera! I presume it does vids for ya too? I don't know how you manage to hold those fish still for a picture. Dang slippery floppery slimery troutses! (oh, I'm hearing the Gollum song again!)
Dude I won't tell blue fox you cheated on her.[Wink] What happens on the provo stays on the provo.[Smile]

No, you see, I worked the Mepps first, then came home to Mama when the Mepps ran off with another girl. [shocked]

Coyote, the only trout that give me fits to hold are cutts from the Berry. They might save all their fight for the shoreline, but they are a real pain when you're trying to grab them.

Great report! I love the spots on those browns. Your new camera is working great. Beautiful pictures!
No, you see, I worked the Mepps first, then came home to Mama when the Mepps ran off with another girl. [shocked] .
So . . . the Blue Fox is a girl, and the Mepps is a boy? Or was she wearing cherry chapstick? maybe I shouldn't ask. [blush]

I think I'm happiest when I get my own "children" out on the water exercizing the fisheses! Even when it means meeting a mouthful of Tiger Teeth, or some slurpy hungry Kitty Cat! (sorry kids, I warned ya - it's a tuff world out there!)
The brass Mepps has been my go-to for browns on the Provo since I was a kid. I don't know why, but I have much better success if I cut the red plastic off the treble. Learned that from my dad and still try one with the plastic on sometimes to make sure it's not jsut in my head.

The other girl was a brown trout.

Might try that, thanks.
