Now is a great time to fish both of those waters. The Logan has a really great population of cutthroat, particularly in the faster pocket water sections. There are plenty of browns in there as well, some areas they are predominant. I've run into a few rainbows as well, including an albino, but they aren't very common once you get up above the reservoirs. There are some massive whitefish in there as well. Keep an eye out for midge hatches. Use dries or emergers if they're coming off. Copper Johns, particularly in a black and green combo have been productive in the spring for me. Prince nymphs, hare's ears, pheasant tails, and free living caddis have all been good nymphs in my experience.
The Blacksmith has more browns than anything else, though as you get higher up you will find more and more cutts. There are some rainbows too, but as with The Logan, they are closer to the reservoir. There are a lot of whitefish in there as well, but fishing for them can be fast right now. I'll take a 20" whitefish on my 3/4wt over a 10" brown any day. Use the same patterns as on The Logan. Closer to the mouth of the canyon, you will also find salmon fly nymphs as well as lots of golden and black stones. There are some really nice fish down there, but it is steeper and doesn't get as much sun as further up this time of year. Flows are swifter and wading a bit trickier as you have the Left Hand Fork coming in a few miles up the canyon. Watch for private property, there's a lot of it [
]. Once you get past the last of it, fishing is good up to Hardware Ranch.
Hope this helps. I'm hoping to hit it myself after class on Friday. It's been way too long.

Let us know how you do. Looking forward to your post! I have been trying to make my way up there but haven't quite found myself up there yet. Good luck!
Yes Yes YEEEES! Ah, that was good.
Trout in those rivers - You'll also find whitefish - at least up Blacksmith.
I don't have secret honeyholes, I'm sure some do. But some of the common-basic locales are at the dams at the lower end. Problem you'll have more on BS is access - especially at the lower end - lots of private property. But there's a few places with picnic areas you can get to some river stretches.
I've fished 1st, 2nd, 3rd dam along the Logan. You'll find a lot of crawler, powerbait and burger pitchers. Lots of planter bows, but there's some hogs out there. A 17lb brown was pulled from first dam a few years back.
But if you want to work higher up the river there is some great flyfishing. But I'd be real careful this time of year - last year's runoff was phenominal, and the currect can really move in some places.
Your very bestest bet would be to hit Round Rocks flyfishing store at the south end of Logan. Can't miss it - HUGE fly outside. Also if you head north to Hyde Park, and turn left at the light - there's Custom Sports - lots of fly-tying gear. Ask at either place where to go, what to use - THEY will know. Even the Walmarts have some pretty good supplies of fliers (S. Wally's have a fly-shop at the front of the store)
I'll PM a little bit more specifics. But really - THOSE are the experts.
Also - don't discount the Bear River - it may not be a trout paradise, but it's a diverse fishery. Crappie and Bass on a fly could be a hoot!

(Hadn't seen Gstott's post - but THERE YOU GO! Someone who can talk all the fly-talk - nymphs, copper johns - yup. What he said! All that kewl jargon!)
Oh yeah- also - don't miss the Little Bear river. I can't tell ya squat about access, but I know there's fish in there.
There are absolutely no fish in the little bear, massive die off a few days ago, wouldn't even bother trying.

I guess that makes up my mind for where to go on Friday [

Welp - you know he nailed it on the fact that Hyrum never iced up this year, so no harddeck there. But at least folks were able to get out with their Eskimo quick-fish pop up boats all this (short) winter! [sly][pirate]
I use spiners on the blacksmith. meps black and white works real well. Or a panther martin works good as well. I was spolied growing up my parents own 10 acers behind the blacksmith fork river. I grew up fishing that river. Looking back i wish i would have spent more time fishing instead of chasing girls. Any way let us know how you do.

It's been too bad, it has been a relatively uneventful ice season. I really think if we get a dryer spring that the fishing is going to be freaking awesome. Low water and higher fish numbers from the previous wet spring. It won't even be fair.

The whities love the nymphs. Just make sure you get them down on the bottom. I always use tungsten bead heads to get them down there. Caddis larvae and sparkly things like Copper Johns and Flashback Hare's Ears do well on them.
