Dog food is fine for dogfish but for catfish, you gotta use cat food as chum. I did that many times back in Texas using a big can of cheap cat food. Using a can opener, the manual kind with a can opener on one end and a can puncturer on the other, just punch a few holes in both ends of the can, tie a string and weight on and give it the old heave-ho into your favorite spot. Within a hour, the food chain starts, first the little ones, then the big ones and then the humongous ones. Since I've always fished for the eatable ones, I sometimes wasn't prepared for the "humongous" category. Those line-stretchers, strain the reel, make your wrist tired ones that never tired. Now that is a humbling experience - bested by a fish.

thats not a boad idea,
I tested with my can opener and saw that I can clip a hole though the rim if I clip it form the top and then through the side. I saw I could get a large swivel snap hooked in to hte hole. using a heavy rod I could cast it out to where I wanted.
now id ya realy want to get creative you can put a swivel and a hook off the other side of the can with your bait on it. talk about your hookups...
