City Creek - Longest hike so far for fishing! 8 MILES of pure hiking. We packed our skis and skins in the car but they plowed the road a bit passed the water treatment facility. This would be an "on foot adventure".

Who woulda guessed all my twin and I would get is a few bites all day by dinky brown trout. We had heard from a few anglers upper city creek was awesome and that the creek widend once you passed the water treatment facility. WRONG! After 4 miles of walking uphill and eventually passing the facility we saw that the best spots were marked "NO FISHING" with cameras to match. My twin got 3 bites with black marabou jig in the creek and I got a follower on a panther martin spinner. We were there from 1pm to 5:30pm.

We made it to the car and drove to memory grove and fished the pond. My twin lost 4 browns and had many bites. I got 2 bites. My twin was using roostertail spinner in silver blade black body size 1/8th, and I was using a blue fox silver in size #2 at the park.

I was actually thinking of going up there yesterday. However between feeling just a bit off and they don't allow dogs in the water or past the water treatment plant decided against it. They don't allow cross country skiing on the road even if it's not plowed. They do enforce all the rules up there extremely strictly. It's hard to find much water up there that isn't extremely brushy. I bring a 5 and/or 6 ft fly rod with me when I fish it. It takes some time and effort to learn the few spots that are fishable with that brush. I actually like it best at the end of the road but that's 8 or 9 miles up. I wait for it to be bikable at least most of the way before going up. Don't forget your waders if you stand in the water because they enforce that as well. You guys like to do all this hiking and are in to keeping some to eat. Once April gets here I should take you into my favorite Northern Utah stream. Largest trout for the size of the stream in Utah that I've encountered but it's been stunting a bit for several years because of too many fish. I'm going to try to keep 4 under 18 inches for the smoker every outing this year but it needs many people doing that. Make sure you're in shape if you take me up because I might be old but I've yet to be out hiked.

Yeah buddy we are totally into hiking and fishing new places. When April arrives let me know when ya want to get out. It will probably be a case of the tortise and the hare. We are slow this year as our knees are getting used to hiking again (acls and a menisus repair) but back in the day we'd backcountry ski from Little Cottonwood to Big Cottonwood, to Mill Creek with no sore-ness! I am sore today though. That was harder than ice fishing Red Pine Lake as I could not ski down this time.

Despite what many believe on here I do keep secrets (for pressure's sake) and release fish (even when not required in areas that appear fragile to me) especially when it comes to rivers and small ponds.

At 9 miles one way I am glad we turned around when we did. I will take anoter shot at it later I guess. There was a nice ski hill in the background of the 2nd shot that will be skied in the spring too.

Mr Riverdog, I would much enjoy, come spring, a river hike. I am oldish, and usually get out hiked, but I will make it. I do ok on City Creek, caught some special cuts. Very tricky. I am not very good at stream fishing, but can learn.
