Had a 4-Day weekend and not wanting to squander the possibilities on the hard deck we of course took full advantage along with some work ‘award’ vacation time and off to Pineview we headed for the hard deck gusto.
Ice Chariot used extenstively. Launching from the Port Ramp shorelines are just fine in this area.
Main ice pushing 11” and possibly 3” of snow on top makes walking oh so much safer. Folks up the narrows of course fishing and well no-how and no-way we’ll fish there with the open water creeping closer away from the dam…now looks like past the buoys…but did see folks there and one group had 2 ATVs. [:/]
Anyhoo
Lures: Usual Pimples, Ants, and cutsom homemade lures (Partner has the knack for them homemade lures)
Bait: Primarily Waxies every now and again used crawler.
Water Depth: 35-45 FOW
First Trip:
Had to work the bite but managed a few keeper Perch.
Second Trip:
This was our second night trip. Lesson learned don’t fish in an area you haven’t previously fished. You'd think we would know better... [shocked] oh well like I said LESSON LEARNED..
Now pause for a second and close your eyes...what do you see.....n-o-t-h-i-n-g.
Had several nice hits and when I thought about moving after exploring all the holes drilled it was well to late to pull up the tent load and pack equipment crank ice chariot and attempt to find another location in the dark with the Saturday night storm coming in.
So no fish to clean when we arrived home at 10PM. That’s fine as we learn with each trip and it isn’t necessarily about catching its always about learning for us that counts. []
Thrid Trip:
BEST trip to Pineview this year. Beautiful day. [cool]
Took a Gent out I know from work. Introduced him to the Vexilar Flasher. Said, he’s sold on flashers after seeing how they worked. He looked at them on the www but they looked complicated and he was unsure how they worked. Had him setup and using it in under 30 seconds and he was putting fish on the hard deck missing hits and totally enjoying.
Had keeper Perch smacking our offerings most of the morning till noon missed numerous hits. Was lots of FUN especially sharing with the Gent from work. He already texted us and said he's looking forward to our next outing and plans on bringing his 11yo Son.
We had fun and fished 3 trips with some great folks…Fellow anglers and the gent from work…lots of fun with all of them and sharing and enjoying each other’s company. What more can one ask for. []
And best of all was the yummie home made onion rings, Perch, Crappie (earlier season trip), and popcorn Shrimp dinner.
All-n-all 2 outta 3 not bad for us this season especially as the pan fish bite has been very unusual this season...but no matter we'll be out on the hard deck working it as long as there's safe ice.
