I've caught two of these, this is by far the biggest. My scale only goes up to 50lb,so couldn't weigh it,and my ruller is only 4' so it was hard to get an accurate measurement, its about 5' ,I'm 5.7,and I'm standing on the back seat of my boat for comparison. This is rare I hear for S.FL,found normally in cenral FL.The other is on my profile, only about 18lb and 49"[Image: happy.gif]

NICE! We caught one of those in the Payneway Spillway last spring that was about 55lb. We thought it was one of the huge blue catfish that are caught there at our secret spot but it ended up being one of these gar. It was a great time watching my friend work that fish for over half a hour on light tackle.

He was using a medium 7' rod with a cheap walmart spinning reel and only 8lb cheap fishing line. He had to let the drag down way low and these monster will strip off 50 yards over and over again.

They are always a fun catch though.

Very nice fish Paulpro. Glad you got a photo of it.

Thanks buddy,I also used some cheap gear,a durango 6' med action and another shakespeare,a pro touch in orange, just one ballbearing lol, I like to spend my money on good line,I used 6lb suffix for my catch, thats what I did with most my winnings,I got lots of line plus got me a 1000 mitchell reel from basspro.
