With the warm weather I decided that I better skip church and hit the lake. While I thought it was a great idea, Mrs. Troutbum didn't love it so much -- today will cost me several hours of foot rubs, but it was worth it.

I recently read on here that there were fish in the cooling ponds, so I thought I'd give that a go first thing. Ya, I don't know what the hell I was reading, because I'd bet my [#ff0000]Deleted[/#ff0000] that there are no fish in there. The water is super clear and pretty shallow. I fished it for approx. two hours and made my way around the entire shoreline. I didn't see/spook anything, nor did I see anything rise. It was a calm quiet day, so I would've seen/heard splashes. Anyhow, after that debacle, I walked the shoreline of the main lake by Bubble Up and threw all sorts of wooly buggers. Not even a sniff. Man, there went three good hours of fishing...

I got back to the truck and headed to Lindon Marina, which was supposed to be my initial destination before I got suckered into those damn ponds. I broke out the pontoon, the battery, and the motor, and headed out. I ran into The Twins and their buddy and chatted for a bit, and then headed over to the north side of the marina -- lots of brush and cover. My goal today was to get some LMB, Carp, and if I was lucky, my first 'Eye. I also dragged a carp minnow ala TD in hopes of a lucky Channel strike. After 3 hours of sputting around the brush, I had exactly Jack Squat to my name. Not even a bite. Then it happened...

Mr. White Bass and his buddies decided to show up, and I couldn't keep them off my line. They seemed mostly keyed in on a small, slow-sinking perch minnow/bugger pattern that my buddy tied for me. It has foam dumbbell eyes instead of lead, which makes for a nice slow decent. I was only in about 4 feet of water, so I could actually see the whitey's smacking it. Awesome!

The best part and highlight of the day was yet to come though. I had just slaughtered 20+ WB from the same "hole" and decided to turn around and try the reeds behind me. Once my fly hit the water, something smacked it hard, and took me for a nice run. I was frickin' scared, excited, and pissed at the same time. Pissed? Ya, pissed that I was dumb and thought 5 lb test would be a good sized tippit. Needless to say, after a few minutes of trying to keep him out of the reeds and out from under my toon, the bastard broke off. I saw him once, but it was fleeting and I couldn't tell what species it was. I'm thinking nice LMB or Carp -- but like I said in another post, I'm totally claiming giant Northern Pike. I also did get a solid hit on a 7" carp minnow that I hung 18" below a bobber that really got my blood pumping, but whatever it was only dragged it a few feet and dropped it, never to return. (probably another HUGE Pike) =)

Heading back tomorrow with a different strategy and stronger line. Mr. Carp is going to get his lips ripped off tomorrow. Boo ya.
I love it, you told me to PM ya if we got into them via the phone! Thanks for sharing dude! Just messin with ya. Glad to see a fish finderless fella got into them. I knew somebody on the lake had to be getting something!

We saw a few boats in that area, we even tried it ourselves. Tylert's motor runs DEEP so we cannot get up close and personal with the reeds like you did. We lost plenty of lures to those reeds today.

What flys do you use for carp? I usually only use black Woolley buggers but want to learn more? And do you just use jigs on the fly for white bass? I fish the hire bass spawn and we spank them on spinners. I've always wanted to use my fly rod though
Thanks for the post! Sounds like a fun day
