I have a young family and am considering heading out to camp and fish for a week in late March. Any thoughts for a husband / wife + a 7, 6, 15 mos where we can camp and fish with relative comfort and catch some fish? Willing to travel even up to 6-8 hours from Boise area for a good place - including out of state.
We are probably bait fishing mostly with the kids. We camp in a tent and like to roast some marshmallows over the fire at night.
I'm looking for some recommendations - thanks in advance!

march ? brrrrrrr. i would recomend holding off until memorial weekend personaly. then you would have a lot better options for trout ( season opener) or at least most of the warm water fisheries would be going good. other than steelhead fishing i don't have a lot of advice. a lot of lakes might still be frozen. maybe arrowrock ? descent facilities and the trout are usually willing to bite. i hope you and your family have a great time !

brownlee/woodhead campground has camping power and showers and within 10 miles of 3 spots. without a boat fishing may not be as easy but thats got some scenery

The weather is really hit or miss in late March I would wait if it were me but if you must go I would choose brownle or CJ strike and watch the weather.

It depends on what you want to catch. If you want to fish for trout I would say Hagerman. If you camped at Sligers or Miracle hot springs you would have an away from fishing plan. You can swim and soak in the hot tubs.
Back to fishing. Oster lakes is a popular fishing spot that almost always has fish biting. Venturing a little farther away is Balanced Rock park west of castleford. It would be a short drive from the hot springs to fish there. People are having good luck fishing Salmon Falls cr right now. A couple more spots would be Rock Creek Park in Twin Falls. There is a good trail system that gives access to much of the creek. Plan on wild brown trout there, and again the fish are biting. Back the other way would be Bell Rapids boat dock. This area will have trout as well.
With the hot springs, and side trips Balanced rock park, Rock creek park and even shoshone falls park the magic valley is a nice location.
Good luck on your trip. Ron

1+ for what ron said. also if you have a steel head rod go to the hagerman wma and fish below the fish hatcher for sturgeon that is a blast to get a little kid hooked up with a fish that is bigger than he/she is

brownlee would be a good bet.

The Hagerman area has tons of fishing for a variety of species, and it happens to be one of the warmest locations this time of year. You can explore/fish Niagra Springs and Crystal Lake, the Oster Lakes, etc. Plus hot springs for the kids, good meals in Hagerman, etc. Mike

I think Ron nailed it spot on. For that time of year Hagerman has a diversity of stuff to do even if the weather is too bad to fish, remember the dreaded spring winds

Late March with the family, 3 kids including a 15 month in a tent for a week. You're brave! If your willing to drive like 8-9 hours Sand Hollow State Park just a bit North of St. George, UT would have a lot more enjoyable weather that time of year. Other thoughts are Lake Powell or Lake Mead. Either that or look at somewhere in low elevation California. Not a lot of fun camping in a tent where it may take many hours to warm up enough for the kids to have fun after the sun rises. Not like you have a heated camper to go back and warm up. If you stay up north and it's not a heat wave like this week borrow or rent a heated tent camper if possible.
