But that's LIVE bait! At least it were. Momma duck seemed a bit ticked off there!
Probably won't get moved to the Fly-Fishing board, even though that bait's made with feathers.
Lunker tells me he witnessed that out at Cutler at a youngling. Flock of ducklings swimming across - dad looks out and says "Hey - Bait" - next thing you know catfish comes up, duckling goes down.
He was convinced his dad MADE it happen!
So what size hook do you put in one of those feathery friends?

I saw a video similar to that a long time ago. It was at Green Lake in Washington.
There was a row of full grown ducks swimming along when the back one vanishes in a less than a blink. When similar reports started showing up they investigated. It turned out that someone had released their pet caimans (small alligators) into the lake, and there were two of them in there that were between 3 and 4 ft long.

I saw/heard the same thing many years ago on Little St. Germain Lake in Wisconsin. Moma duck with 4 little ones next to lily pads - then a big splash and a musky grabbed one of the ducklings. The ducklings were larger than the ones in the video, but then again I think the musky was bigger than that northern.

Fish can be so opportunistic. Some friends of mine caught about a six pound largemouth that once boated, proceeded to vomit up several ducklings. Those were some gross pics. Another time, while fishing with the same people, they had a bass regurgitate a snake. I once caught an 11.5" bass that I decided to eat along with some perch one day, and he expelled a 7" plastic worm, a mouse and two perch into the basket while I was fishing. Another time, when I was a kid, this chain pickerel kept stealing my shiner minnows off the hook. I finally caught him on a lure, and he threw up my shiners and the bottom half of a spotted salamander with eggs coming out of it. It's crazy what fish will sometimes decide to eat.

I know when fish are hungry, they will eat anything. This was a very weird feeling

I seen one person put their foot in the water in Texas and a barracuda took a bite..

That's hilarious, and kind of nasty at the same time. I'll bet that felt odd.

That video looks like a spring pike guarding its nest area. In MN they go shallow right about ice out to spawn and are really aggressive. That is why the fishing season is closed there in the spring to protect the spawn. As far as bait they will eat anything. Ducks are not safe. Another interesting thing were when the owls kill mice and gophers they will roost in a tree by the river and drop the gopher after eating only the head. The catfish we caught on the lower Boise River often ate these. I caught a big one a few years back that had 4 headless gophers and a quail chick in its belly. Talk about opportunity.

Ah that's funny. Reminds me of the Chinese/Japanese Gardens in Paena, California - Huntington Gardens.
They got some WHOPPERS! Some of these fish had to have been three feet long.

Here's some hungry Koi for ya!
and a couple shots from Huntington

Sometimes when fishing for fish you catch something else too, lol!
My brother and I were fishing a small pond in Mississippi when we were teens using minnows for bass and crappie. The pond always had a lot of ducks landing there and one time my brothers float goes down and he sets the hook.
He thought he had the bass of his life and then the water explodes and a DUCK flies up out of the lake with his line!!!
He was reeling in a duck flying through the freaking air!!!
We cut the line so we wouldn't hurt the duck. I don't know if that was the right thing to do but we were kids and it freaked us out. We probably should have got the duck down to us and removed the hook. We'll never know.
But that is probably the most bizarre fishing experience I've ever had. I wish we had, had video phones back then to get that moment on video.

I saw that vid already,I like it.I sometimes tease the bass at the lake.Once they get their mind fixed on a baitfish "bigbaitfish",they'll even come feet from shoar.LOL I too have wanted to get abducted,I don't care by who as long as they take me fishing,or going back in time even, caveman days, must of been some really big bass back then[shocked]
Just don't go swimming,a big ol bass may eat you

Thats a first for me, thanks! I enjoyed that very much[]
You truely are a goddess
You know,I thought of making a rubber ducky lure and trolling it at the glades while we bass fish, plus it'll look cute back there[blush],but I know everyone will just make fun of me,like the time I glued a bunch of old worms together made some really long worms
average 16" some larger[shocked].Saying that,I doubt I'll make a lure like that.P.S I found a vid of a baby duck used to catch a bass.If you look carefully you can see the baby duck is hooked in the mouth, you can tell because it shakes its head in attempt to spit the hook. Here in S. FL I saw a Pacu from my boat under a mother Muskovie with her young,I only noticed cause she was a in distress.
