Was at the Wash after being inspired by syncity's report saw a few boats out there I did not see anyone catching. Heard some boater talking about he got three as I launched my kayak. Metered fish and saw fish crashing the top. My report to follow.

Those "fish crashing on top" are actually gizzard shad right now, not stripers. They are spawning, and get very acrobatic during the spawn.
"Spawning gizzard shad gather in large schools to broadcast their eggs in water several feet deep, near the shore. The actual spawning is done near the surface. The females participate with several males."
... I'll keep my jokes to myself.
I think this is what we are seeing out there, cause you cant catch a damn thing casting through the action, and I saw 2lb gizzards clearing the water. I know they aren't running from anything at that size, so it must be spawn time for them.

Undur,
Well my only web access has been off a old Iphone so sorry I could not complete the report but wanted to get the dope on the street so others may get out to try their luck. So started the day with conditions looking like this

Well Whizzle was right those fish that were jumping were brownish not at all silver stripped gorillas of the deep but they were making such a ruckus I figured the monsters could not be too far behind so I metered around with my very old cold war era sounder

Threw every thing I had at the targets with no luck so I switched up to being a hunter of fish and got out the secret weapon and ended up with this guy

Ended up with two for the day both were measured around 18 inches but were really fun on the fly rod. I was on the water from 11 till about 1300 and I called it a good day. To me they did not really look all plump I would have expected the shad explosion to have put some more meat on these guys. Maybe our SB will become like the bruisers in Powell or Mohave. Here is my number two guest.
