I got out for the first time this year yesterday, been remodeling a house since June and we are just now to the point where we can take some time on the weekends to relax. Took the kayak over to Gold Point Harbor to put it in and they've got a gate closing off their parking area. I was mad for a minute since all I wanted to to was launch a yak but then I realized if they don't make it off limits they'll have all kind of yahoos trying to get in there. Like me.

Anyway I drove around for a little bit trying to figure out what I was going to do and scoped out North Chickamauga Creek right next to the dam and said what the heck. Paddled 1/2 a mile up to a bend in the Big Ridge Wild Area and drifted back fly fishing with a hopper pattern to get me in the fly groove for an overnight Toccoa River trip I am taking mid April. I had a lot of strikes which kept things exciting and landed 5 of the 8 or so I hooked. Nothing big but it was fun to get back out there. I think we are running about 6 weeks ahead of where we were last year climate wise and the fish know it! Last year this time I probably wouldn't have gotten a fourth of the strikes I did today.
