Full Version: Good sites for buying flies?

Hi I was wondering if anyone out there could recommend any websites or shops where I can buy flies for a good price. Im just starting out and am recuperating from the cost of all the equipment Ive already got so fly tying equipment isnt in the cards right now. You really start to feel $1 a fly when you look down at 5 tiny fuzzy hooks in your hand an imagine that you could get a whole foot long at Subway for that much!

Thanks for any help!

Cheapest I've found flies is off eBay... Most guys combine shipping on any flies you by. I got a a couple dozen for about $3.00 a dozen. Quality isn't the best by any means. But they're cheap, and you can get a lot which you'll be needing starting out. I'd only get the ones that are fairly typical. Ex. Hares ear, BH hares ear, pheasant tails, copper johns in any color, wd-40's if you can find them, brassies, etc. Unless you know what insects are in the river, don't be going and buying flies that might look cool but have no idea what they are.

The best site hands down is: http://www.theflystop.com/ I have been buying flies from them for years and they are difficult to beat for selection, quality, and price.

That looks like a good site. I was at Cabelas recently and the price for the grand hoppers went up to $2.69[:|]. About $2 a fly cheaper at that site.

Yea - the Grand Hoppers work great and are much less expensive than elsewhere. My favorite terrestrial fly from that site is the foam cricket. That fly is absolutely money on smaller streams fished along undercut banks.

I'll add a second vote for http://www.bigyflyco.com/. not only are they a good price but they have a good selection.

Roundrocks deserves a look. Their flies are 89 cents per fly, which is a litte bit cheaper and they always have good deals going. Like this one: 40 bucks for a 100 flies:

They have a shop up in Logan, and they are stand up guys. By far, my favorite shop in Utah.
