I finally got a 6HP Mecury outboard for my little boat. Should work great, now i have a few more options, and will for sure be getting into some of my better locations this weekend!

I am hoping to test out my little craft tomorrow if anyone wants to tag along for some cats, and WB

I have a little 6 hp Johnson on my Coleman Crawdad. Works great when it is just me in there. But my little boat isn't the best for much more, but we still can put around. I am just glad I have it now. Makes fishing a little easier as far as getting to places.

Yeah i work until 3 tomorrow Sad

I usually use my Minnkota 55lb thrust and it actually pushes my boat around pretty well. My boat doesnt have as much drag as a normal boat so it doesnt need too much hp to get it going at a decent speed.

I may post a video of the maiden voyage when i get out.

So when i took my motor out (it is an older motor that has been sitting a while) Everything was good for about 20 mins then it started to overhead. I noticed the motor was not pulling water through correctly, so i shut it off and paddled my happy self into shore.

Yesterday I took it over to my dads machine shop and changed the lower unti oil, checked all the seals and ran a length of insulated thermostat wire bent into a loop at the top through the water pump lines, and it cleared a little clockage. Also replaced the impeller. (the engine is extremely clean and well taken care fo fir its age) Put the engine in a barrel of water and ran it, runs like a dream, and the water pump is pumping a good steady stream

Trying it out again today

Nice going on the merc, only thing I hope its a two stroke, here's our 4hp merc,we kept it in the familly, pushing my 10' tin boat. 2 stroke baby all the way,I hit 17.5,my nephew who is 3lb lighter hit 18mph[Image: bobmad.gif] http://youtu.be/w458VfG2fCQ

Yes sounds like you have a 2 stroke, hella fast, merc is the fastest, not as reliable, but hey,you only live once,so I'll take the speed over the reliability any day, looking forward to your vid. 2 strokes!

Yeah its a two stoke, I should be able to get going around 20, my boat is extremely light. I will be adding Sea Foam "cleaner" to the fuel mixture today to clean a little of the carbon buildup out, i may just go with a double dosage for now and then use it regularly for the first part of this season. Overall thoguh its a great motor, has lots of power and looks nice for it's age.

I will for sure be posting video either today or tomorrow Paul. Good to hear your motor is kickin like a champ as well. I may bring along my GPS to get a speed reading.

Thanks buddy have fun, make sure you can remove the fuel bowl incase in the future you get any water in the gas.I have to sometimes dump it out when mine starts sputtering, but thats more an issue with my 1.75horse.

I guess thats what happens when you don't use seafoam.

20mph in a bass tracker? You're a brave man [Smile] I had a similar year merc 7.5 and on a super light 14' v hull tin boat, I could do around 16 by myself. Fishing with a buddy I was usually around 12 on glass. Caught a lot of fish and shot a lot of ducks with that boat

Hi there I've got a 64 Merc 6 horse. Its been a great motor always starts idles great I use it as a kicker on my tracker. It used to be on a 14 ft aluminun and it pushed it along respecfuly. I get all my parts for it at iboats.com they seem to have most everything, but at this point I havent needed much. Great motor I think youll be happy with it. Good luck
