Was just wondering if anyone has successfully caught any bass out of any of the preston area lake yet. I know water is still cold but cant wait to try them out.

No info on the lakes, but I see you are new here. Welcome to the board.

I'm not saying it can't be done, but I always jump the gun and start too soon. I would wait until the water temp gets to around 50.

+1 On the starting to soon I seem to jump the gun every year as well. I have already been out. And like always too soon. No Fish. Got some sun though! Water temps were around 47 for the main lake and in the low 50's for the shallow bays (calm day just surface temps). Welcome to the forum! [fishon]

You can catch bass year round. It just depends upon how hard you want to work and making sure you have the right clothes for the weather. I don't really believe the water temperature is as important as we believe. Locating the fish is the most important thing. The fish will eat your lures if you find them. This year I caught more smallmouth out of the Snake in February with water temps in the low 40s than I did in March with water temps in the low 50s.

About 10 years ago I caught largemouth on topwater in March when the water temps were in the low 50s. We had a warm sunny afternoon and the fish were in about 2-3' of water.

If you don't go out and try to find the fish you'll never catch any.

Here's some fish caught earlier than today's date in years past:

This last photo shows a pretty good largemouth on the end of a short line.

Very cool, Weed.

I like that last picture. That's my favorite kind of fishing right there. It's what I often think about on winter nights when I'm trying to go to sleep.

Warning, this is WAY off topic -
I don't know if you noticed or not gstott, but your last post was the 50,000th post in the Idaho Fishing General forum! That's pretty cool. Maybe there's some sort of prize [:p]

OK back to the topic at hand.... Cool pics SmartWeed!
