try renegade tackle it's mostly cat gear but I think you can find what you want on there and Paul will give you quick service on your order. take a look at the reels I'm sure one will serve your purpose[ quite a good selection for a good price]. I think their war rods will easily handle what your trying to catch.

Over the years, I have found a few sturgeon rods at local outlets but they are few and far between. I even picked one up off of KSL classifieds. Best bet for a bargain would be eBay, if you have confidence in the seller.

The Cabelas store in Lehi does carry the 5/0, 6/0, & 7/0 Octopus Circle hooks that will catch any thing swimming on the Snake. I just purchased some last weekend.

I personally use the 6/0 Octopus Circle hook with great success.

I love sturgeon fishing and if you can, try to find a used outfit. I personally use a 12 ft ugly stick (for casting distance) but a 10 or 14 would be just as good. 14 just seems too long to handle but lots of guys use them. As for reels I use a penn large (cant remember the mod number) level wind. A lot of my friends use big open face spinning. Personal choice just make sure you can spool close to 300 yards of 40 to 60 pound test. Make sure you read idahos rules, no barbs and sliding sinkers that will come off the line if it breaks.
If all else fails Cabelas in Boise has most of the stuff or if you can go to Howards in Nampa the have everything and know what they are talking about. Good luck, once you hook one of these 5 ft and above you'll be addicted. I chased them for a number of years before I was able to get some consistency to them. Hang in there they are a kick it's like hooking on to a moving car, they stop when they want. It's easy to get spooled, drags dont mean a lot to them.

I have fished below Swan Falls. There are a lot of areas to fish there and Sturgeon and Cats will be there to play. When your driving to Swan Falls you can stop by Sportsman's warehouse in Twin Falls. They can set you up with new stuff. The other guy's have covered it for the most part. Good luck on your trip. Ron

i have four setups. like he said bait casters are the best for constant drag. i have caught over 100 in idaho and dont get smaller than an 8 hook. fifty lb mono is the best. should be able to get a ten ft pole for thirty bucks and the largest spin cast reel u can find for fifty bucks. i wouldnt ruin ur trip buying a bait caster open face reel and back lashing all day. i have been doing it for fifteen years and still backlash all the time when ur really trying to throw it across the river especially with new loose line. buy clear line or florescrnt not the grass green cause its hard to see wear. holler with any questions
