West Magic's site is not at all reliable in that they rarely update it. The East Side resort just bailed out of their site this winter. Best to call them. Mike
PS: Don't you wonder why businesses, esp. fishing destinations, don't update their sites and fishing reports on a regular basis? Think of the lost revenues, considering that newspapers also use these types of sites. A good review in the Statesman brings tons of fisherman to a locale. Guess they are making as much money as they want to!!!

Thats what i was wondering was kinda wanting to put the boat in up there but was surprised to see 2 foot of ice [:p] I will give them a call and see what they say.
Absolutely if the fishing is good list it you would receive that much more business. But would still resort back to here as i would trust the members reports here better than someone i didn't know.

Did a scouting trip today, went to Lava Point and Myrtle Point. there is fishable water around the ice sheet but the water is very stained. Muddy water is pouring in Lava Creek and there is flow out the dam. Fished about an hour with no bites.[:p]

Magic is all open now, water is mostly cloudy its a little cleaner down by the dam.
Nobody hardly catchin' nuthin, gonna be a few weeks before it picks up.
no docks in the water yet, if you go it'd be a good idea to bring some hip waders.

Thanks Deshka. I normally don't like fishing it until mid-May, but was wondering if it might turn on early this year, with all our strange weather. I imagine the water will be rising pretty damn fast in the next couple of weeks. Hot Springs ramp sure makes it easy for those of us in the Boise area. Again, thanks for the report. Mike

It is within a foot of being full, and it looks they're letting water out as fast as possible right now.
drowning flys,, fer sure we ought to hook up, you to Kodiak.
You guys ought to come out and try your luck at the trolling derby this year in April, I will post the details here pretty soon.

I went over there yesterday and fished off the bank near Lava Point for a few hours. The wind was definitely a factor in only being able to hang there for a couple hours, but that's pretty typical for Magic in the spring. I managed to hook and land one very healthy looking 15 incher but it was definitely still slow fishing overall. I've been going over there for the better part of the past 10 or 12 years and have never seen so much water in the areas along the roadway below the dam. There are spots that I've driven past dozens of times in the past that I didn't even realize would hold water that are now completely flooded.
The reservoir itself is not far from being full and I don't believe that the main part of this year's run off has really even started yet.
Based on how good the fishing was last fall and all that water, I bet that it's going to be a very memorable year for boating and fishing at Magic later this Spring and all through the Summer.

Well it was a very slow day @ Magic. Fished from 9:30 am to about 2:30 pm & never touched a fish. Me & a buddy trolled Rapalas & drug worm harnesess around the lake but came up with a big goose egg. The lake appears to be full with temps in the low to mid 40's. Only a couple other boats out fighting the wind. We did talk with John Adams who said he picked up a couple of trout trolling in the 1 1/2 pound range. Might try again next week. [fishin]
