Hit the water at 10 a.m. I am again looking for a monster crappie. Brush pile in
10 foot of water, 1/16 oz. jig with Outlaw Special. Third cast, I stick a beast. I am
working around the boat with net in tow. When the crappie surfaced, my heart stopped.
had 3 pound potential, a true freak. When it saw the net, it made a hard, drag taking run.
Did it 3 times. What a relief, its in the net. Damn, what a crappie. Out come my digital
scales, 2 lbs. 14 ozs, 16 inches, another close call. I knew 2lbs. 14 oz., was leading big
fish at Hamiltons. So I loaded up and took it to be weighed. It was 2. 13oz., on their scale.
Their scale is crap, but all fish are weighed on same scale, so the results are fair. I use my
scale weight at 2 lbs. 14 ozs. Brought her back and released her to do work. Got rained on
hard, then David showed up to fish. We caught fish on a few spots, then the bottom fell out.
We got under a dock and rode it out for about an hour. We caught 5 good crappie on that dock
while waiting. Never caught a keeper there before. We made a long run to go to where I caught
some the day before. A dock in 10 feet of water, caught 6 or 7 keepers here. Then moved on to
another dock in the area. As soon as our jigs hit the water, we were assaulted.Nice male fish had
moved in and were aggressive. We caught over 20 keepers here. Pink Pearl by BG, is a great
second jig color to restart crappie. I got another tarp here, a male. Exactly 14 inch. We finished
with 48 keeper sized crappie, kept 30 to give to an upcoming fish fry.
