I have not used that product. Is that something you put in before you store it for months or is it a cleaner of some kind? Thanks

Thanks for the heads up MM, the last time I went to buy it, it had gone from $9 to $10 a can. So that is a great savings. I also found out that they now sell it by the gallon, I'll have to check again but I believe it was $54. So when the price goes back up, that is a good savings as well but at 6.48, I'm going to head down there tomorrow and pick up 8. That should do me for a while.[

[#800000]I bought some in January from O'Rielly when they had it on sale - buy 2, get 1 free - and it was $9. The current gallon price at O'Rielly is $53. Eight 16 oz cans will cost you $51.84 at $6.48 a can - a great buy.[/#800000]

Not trying to Hi-jack your thread but I have a question. I bought a snowmobile (RX-1) this year, was only able to take it out twice and it was running like crap both times. I couldn’t get it over 51MPH going downhill. No bottom end, no top, no power period! I was told by the guys at Dick Yamaha it most likely had dirty carbs. Would this product help clean out any build up or should I just have them clean them up? I’m not looking forward to spending a couple hundred dollars to have them do it if this will work. What do you think? Any and all reply welcome, thanks!!!

Have you tried running SeaFoam through it?

Kinda sounds like your choke is stuck. Seafoam would probably fix it. But do you want to drive it around for three or ten trips with it running crappy until the seafoam cleans it out? Seafoam is better as a preventative maintenance thing then a fix it after it is clogged thing. Get the carbs cleaned and then run seafoam every time you fuel.Especially when it is stored for summer. It keeps gas from breaking down and making sludge.

That's generally good advice but I have run straight seafoam/2 stroke oil in a 50/1 mix and made engines that would barely run end up running like new. I had a 2 stroke snowblower given to me a few years ago that hadn't been used in 3 years and the carb was gummed up so bad it wouldn't start. I poured some premixed seafoam/oil mix in the gas tank and got it to fire up and after revving it for about 5 minutes it ran like a champ and I sold it for $100.
Honestly, it's a cheap way to make a doggy engine run well and if seafoam won't help, you have bigger problems than gum and varnish.

WH- no I’ve never used Seafoam.
WEB- I don’t think it’s the choke because the machine runs nice and smooth at idle, giving the engine temp and choke settings. It’s once you give full throttle that it's bogging down “different jets”. I believe your right though, probably just need to shell out the money, get it fixed right and just try to prevent it from happening again. Thanks all.

I worked on a couple snow mobiles this winter, that had sat for a few years. I am by no means a mechanic, but I did my best at cleaning out the carb and was able to get them running. They both and a rough idle and blew a lot of smoke. I treated the new gas with stabil and let them run until they stopped smoking so bad and the idle smoothed out. After that they ran great all winter, started right up. Your problem sounds a little different than mine, but I would at least try it. Couldn't hurt. Does anyone know the diff. between stabil and seafoam?

Unfortunately you never know how a used machine was maintained; I think I got the lemon!! The guy I bought it from said he had just changed all the motor oil so I didn’t bother to look at the time of purchase. Once I got it home I noticed the motor oil looked like tar and the gear oil was even worse. The first trip out after changing all the oils, I blow the lower bearing in the chain case “Gear oil goes in the chain case” which took out the chain, chain case, four other bearings and one gear. $973 later I still have a machine that won’t make it up the trailer under its own power. Grrrrrrrrrr!!!! I’m sure the carbs received the same kind of love. Anyone out there want to buy a used low mile Yamaha RX-1? JK.

Yes Sr. The chain case had a hole the size of a 50 cent piece in the bottom. All the new oil leaked on the ice at the berry. Sorry fishes!!!!!

This topic was covered awhile back between Sta-bil and Seafoam. It's like talking Ford or Chevy. I have been using Sta-bil for years and have never had a problem keeping any of my engines running clean and smooth. The price on Sea foam at NAPA may get me to try a can just for S & G's. [cool]

From what I've read and found out from others, Seafoam does two things, it stabilizes the gas but it also has carb cleaner in it that keeps varnish from building up in your carbs if you use it regularly.
Stabil on the other hand does not have the carb cleaner in it. It works great during the summer when you use your boat all the time but when sitting all winter does not help as much. They do have a Marine Stabil that must do more but I really don't know if it is as good a Seafoam but it does cost twice as much as regular Stabil.
