Finally got out with Gene. We had planned to get out together for a long time and yesterday we finally got together. Gene wanted to learn to fish deep for the crappie up on Tellico so we hit 3 deep water spots that I fish for crappie at different times of the year, just not this time of the year. We spent about half or more of our day fishing deep and we did catch a few on the first spot that we fished. I was surprised that Gene caught a 13 inch prespawn female, in 14 feet of water falling into 24 feet hundreds of yards from any spawning area. He also caught a 12 lb blue cat at the second spot. After basically hauling water for the whole morning I asked him if he wanted to catch some fish, of course he said yes. We fished docks and deep brush and ended up with 23 keepers. We had one TARP caught on a brushpile not far from the house. Most of the fish that we caught were 9 inchers but there were huge numbers of them. I didn't keep a count on how many we caught but our non keeper to keeper ratio was probaly between 5 and 8 to 1. Gene can catch them, that's for sure. Most fish came on a 4 count with Bluegrass being my best color. Deep we fished with darker colors. The water in the creek was 76 degrees at the end of the day.
