Hit Pineview up about 8 - 11..Nuthin..not a bite. Stopped a few times at places on the Ogden R. caught a Rainbow. Went to Holmes Creek Reservoir at about 2 p.m. caught trout for the rest of the day on everything from nightcrawlers, powerbait, a spoon, and spinners. They were small but they were literally jumping out of the water into my hands, didn't keep any. If it is stocked it still felt good to catch some fish after getting skunked at Pineview and Ogden R. Is Holmes Creek stocked? It didn't show up on the community fisheries list.

thanks for the post. I am planning to hit pineview today. If you mind sharing were you on the shore or boat? what were you targeting and what were you using? Is all the ice off completely. Im going with my kayak and ice is not good for it. [Wink]

I was on shore. Fishing for trout and panfish. Dudn't even see a splash. Maybe should have got there earlier or went out in late afternoon. No ice left. Good luck!

do you know how plentiful the crappie or bass are in there? i also am reading that there are eyes there too. and i heard the wanted to stop planting slimers in there since its not a communty fishery.

In Holmes? I don't know how plentiful the bass and crappie are. All I caught was trout. Slimers..do you mean you can't use worms? Didn't know if that's the case. So, it isn't a community fishery...does that mean normal bag limits apply? Cause you could catch 4 trout in an hour easy right now.

A slimer is a term for trout because they don't have big scales. just slimy. I don't know where he is talking about but he is saying he thinks they will stop stocking trout.

Sorry..Im from GA we don't call them slimers down there...worms are slimers and I thought he meant you couldn't use live bait. I know there are a couple of spots around here where you can't. Any luck at Pineview?

When is the best time of year for wiper? Is willard the best place to go close to Layton?

From what I've heard Holmes used to be a pretty diverse fishery. Crappie, white bass, walleye, other bass (largemouth I think. Don't know if there are/were smallies), bluegill even. It's been referred to as "the company pond" also.

I think there was a low water year that did bad things, then it became a community fishery, which also does bad things.
Stocked to gills with slime-rockets (rainbows) and catfish. Too small to support the breeders, so the trout take over, and the bass/panfish decline. It's too bad - it'd be a good warm water lake.
Don't think any floating is allowed, and shore access can be tough once spring grows up.

It was last year I think that it was "removed" from the CM program, so that changes the bag limit from the 2-fish rule. Should also put an end to the same stocking efforts. Though they were still chucking it full of bows through last fall:

[/#000000]Worms are fine for bait in Utah, except for certain streams, or ponds where it's artificial only. The "live bait" restriction is limited to the use of "fish" I believe. No live minnows swimming your jig around. But worms, snails, bugs, mice - I think any of those are fair game as live game.

Willard is your best bet for Wipers. Limit is down to 3 this year (from 6). There are some other places they get planted, but I'd still say - from Layton - Willard is your best bet.
no not a bite. It was more of "im dying to get out no matter what day it is or the weather is like" type of day. It was crazy windy and I was in my kayak. i had like 10 good casts and called it a day within the hour.
