This report is late as the site I use to upload pics was down for a few days......

So I went with Robertsfam to my cutty spot yesterday. Met him at 6:30am as he had to be at work in a few hours. We arrived to a great sunrise but the fish hadn't woke up yet. Luckily I was early as a kid that saw me there the day before was arriving early to snipe my spot. Ha I won. Before Robertsfam left I caught the first cutt of the day. He was kind enough to leave me a few flies to try as my knots kept coming loose and I was loosing my flies rather quickly. The wind was terrible once Robertsfam left but I carried on. I caught 4 cutts by the time I lost all my midges that sit under the water. Then I was left with one choice. Dry flies or go home. Well recently I had seen these bugs flying around so I went to Sportsmans and tried to match it. It worked!!!
Within 2 mins BAM a fish slurped it off the top. I landed 2 in a row in consecutive casts! I have never tried dry flies before. Then I saw a fish hit it and shake while I set the hook. Well the line flew at me with no tension. That happened twice in a row! Then a angler taught me the correct knot and I landed most of the fish that hit. We chatted while he fished in my spot with me. The action was decent in the lulls of the wind gusts. My twin informed me that we were meeting a new member from BFT that was a twin as well at Little Dell by 5pm so I packed up at 4pm and left. I caught 11 cutts yesterday. The largest went 16 inches long. I lost 5 cutts, and missed around 15 bites. Dry flies are a new addiction!!!

It is EXCITING!!! Never had so much fun fly fishing before. The hook is set so to say and I am on the line being dragged into fly fishing now! I imagine it is like topwater fishing.

Pretty cutts. Seeing the fish come up and grab a dry is a real rush!

Also be sure that you wet your knot as you pull it tight.

Did that. I was using a clinch knot, the guy I let fish my spot with me helped me tie a improved clinch knot. He said that was way better for a fly connection to 5x tippet.

I really want to get rid of the sweivel. Too much weight for the dry fly, which made me use a styrafoam indicator on it and they guy told me that spooks most fish out of touching a dry fly.

If the guy wants to learn why not have him PM me? I have answered many peoples requests to tell where that was. Not cool FG! This is why I dam near didn't post it on BFT. You guys are priceless!

Not sure what you problem is. Steve and I have been talking about reels and stuff at the expo.
I didn't break any rules here.

Oh so sayin it is an easy place to learn PM sent doesn't have anything to do with the name of that place? Yeah right FG.

get over it. I didn't break any rules.

Nice loophole! I bet many other people would have had a heart attack if I did that to the tiger reports that were on here a while back.

You are just pissy cuz we found Little Dell and you wanted that place to yourself. You act so childish about a spot that we found ourselves. This is the last time I report this spot on here as the BFT community is un-cappable of of NOT SAYING WHERE IT IS!

Truley hypocritical from the very people always crying on the forum or off the forum in PMs about how I cannot keep secrets on places. Then when I do they blast it.

Too funny [laugh][laugh][laugh]

Again, I have no idea why you are getting all upset. If you look at the other post on FF forum you will see Steve and I have been talking about reels and other stuff. Am I not to have any friends here?

So you've come over to the 'fairy flinging' side and posted to the fly -board! Dare you to suggest tipping your fly with some tyedye-crawler! haha!!!

[center][blush]Is that a swiss or german rigging?[blush]

I'm absolutely NOT the right person to suggest correct fly-fishing riggings, but don't think swivels are typically used. You don't have the line-twisting spinning action you're used to with your Blue-Foxes. Plus - except for the tippet - don't believe fly line is as prone to twist - as most are more rigid by nature.
I've gotten away from using them even with topwater lures - poppers and such. The nose-diving really messes up their action.

Here is a TD writeup on the TripleSlipKnot. Don't know if it's a good fly-knot, but the guy swears by it. Claims he can tie it blindfolded behind his back!

As for jumping on the Goddess - who's saying she even PM'd YOUR secret spot? Sounds like other folks know about it, and can't be that remote if you're running to and from Sportsman's. (you can PM me the location if you dare)
I'd suggest she deserves a bit more respect, and for someone new to fly-fishing, SHE is someone you could learn a hell of a lot from! So get yer hackles down dude!

Anywho - nice fish.
Why get all worked up over a fishing spot? You don't think anyone else had found a good spot on that lake? Get real. Cracks me up about people being protective of "their spot". It's not yours, you don't own the lake, you don't own the fish. We need more people in this world like Joni that are more the willing to show others, promote catch and release tactics, and support the sport as a whole. This whole, "my spot" is bullshit. Goes back to the whole HB 141. You can either be part of the problem, or part or the solution... Choose your pick.

Forgot to mention, nice fish and welcome to the addicting world of fly fishing! Ain't be long till your dropping a few bills on fly tying equipment. Wink. Good addition to have!

Thank you for the kind words guys. CS, swivels can be quite usefull in fly fishing. I do use them.

I see you would like to delete this thread. I would love to help you, but I am no longer Moderator of Utah Fly Fishing (my choice folks). And Sadly Zach is out of town fishing for the weekend.

I thought you'd like the pup pic. About the size of your pooch! Just more teeths! grrrrr

RE: Swivels
I stand corrected, and not surprised. So where does a swivel tie in for ya? Not direct to the fly line right, but between leader/tippet or something?
Is that more for when you're deep nymphing, or do you use them on topwater too.

Meant to say - I have heard of setups with a double dropper tied up - where the dry fly serves as an indicator - above a sub-surface type fly. At least that way your indicator won't scare fish, but rather entice them.

[center]Cheers. It's all good.
[/center]
ya for sure if you go crazy on the flyfishing equipment and toys it can be spendy, but worth it when you stick a 20 inch+ brown on a 3 or 4 wieght, fly fishing is by far the funnest fishing if you get the hang of it, for me aleast.

You are correct. I use furled leaders and where I nomally attach a small rings, I attach a small swivel. It multi tasks too. Weight and as you say, deep nymphing. Multi flies. So, I attach it to a furled leader then attach 3' to 13' of fluoro.
