I pouring over some old hatchery reports on the F&G website, and it detailed the results of opening the lake for 24 hour fishing. Thinking back, I knew this had been done but I've never ventured out after dark to fish it - does anyone have any experience with this? If so, please share!

I would not fish after dark from a boat unless I could be on shore in 2 minutes due to winds that quickly show up.

+1 with kent. The 1st year it was open 24\7 I tried it. Luckily I was out in an 18' boat with full cabin and bow cover. The wind came up and we had waves breaking over the cabin. Scared the %*#)@ out of me. We almost beached it too when we were trying to get back to shore. All we could really see were the few lights from rvs at Frome park. Not a fun experience. We did catch a couple of fish before we got blown off but I would say it wasn't worth it.

I was with Mikkfin that night, fishing was good right up to the point the wind hit. I thought windstorms during the day were bad, but that was a whole new level. I have to admit, I was pretty nervous, good think Mikkfin was steady at the helm. I would try it again, but only if I knew for sure that the weather was going to be stable.

SFCR can have big wind and waves at any time so can strike. I fish there and keep an eye on the weather. I look at it like a million things could go wrong most of the time it doesn't so why worry about it. I have fished Henry's lake in a tube a couple of times. I have heard the stories so I stayed close enough to shore that I could beach quickly and just fished. Ron

The weather on Henry's is nothing but unpredictable! I really like fishing the North shore - either from the hatchery or Wild Rose for that reason. If the wind kicks up, it will blow you into the shore - much better than the alternative! The question sticks with me about fishing it at night from an experience I had 6 years ago. I used to work at Wild Rose in the summer, and I spent many nights sitting out on the docks watching the fish jump in the moonlight. The shallows seem to come alive around 10:30 - 11:00 pm. Maybe one day I'll convince myself I'm still brave and give it a shot!

I have tried it from shore several times and likely from my float tube, Generally not much luck it seems to go fairly dead after twilight most of the time. I have had a few good nights in the fall at the right place but even then it is pretty hit and miss from one evening to the next. I generally fish with flies but of course bait might be better after dark. I know the full moon does not seem to help as I have made a point to fish it under a full moon, Generally all I get is cold. There are better places for consistent full moon fishing.

I'll tell you right now the wind doesn't always blow from the south. There have been many times it comes from the north, and east, and west. And then it'll change direction on you. That's been my experience. Don't trust the weather, don't trustnthe wind.

I've done it from a pontoon boat before but I stayed pretty close to the dock....make that very close...still, fairly spooky and the fishing was not impressive enough to get me to do it again.
