Went to Strike today and fished from shore for about four hours. I went to Cottonwood first to see if the crappie were in yet with the warm weather we've been having. Caught a small perch and a crappie about 6" long. I saw a few other people get some about the same size.
After I left Cottonwood, I fished off the bridge for an hour or so and caught a dinky trout. Then I moved to the area near the generators for the final hour of daylight and hooked and lost another trout I would guess was around 14".
They are letting water out through the spillway gates again this year. The walkway on top of the dam is closed and will remain closed through the end of June. I'm not sure why. Last year I can understand since we had all that rain and the huge snow pack. This winter it barely rained at all, and I haven't heard of heavy snows in the mountains.
Still too early for shallow water crappie and bass, I think. They should be moving in by the end of the month, provided the weather doesn't get all cold. Even though it was slow, I'm glad I got a chance to get out and test the jigs I made.
