Hi all,

So new to the forum and new to fishing in Lake Mead, but had quite a succesful first day on the Lake thanks to all the great information on this forum and wanted to share a report.

We headed down to 33 Hole at around 5:30am on Saturday having read that the best fishing happens in the half light. It was cold, dark and actually raining, but the wind was the worst. We started out with crankbaits and got nothing for the first hour or so. It got too cold for my partner who went back to the car to warm up. So fishing alone I caught a 12" LMB on a shad-looking crankbait.

However... the silt right by the waters edge sank me down up to my knees and like a true novice I lost the fish before I could get a photo or in to my bucket. I was kicking myself (with very muddy shoes on).

Half an hour later my partner turns up (and kindly, believed me that I had snagged the LMB). We switch over to fishing with anchoives on Carolina rigs, chumming the heads and tails. Within 30 minutes we had three good sized stripe bass in our bucket! All were caught on her rod, but I did set the line, bait the hooks and handled the fish, so I will take some of the glory!

We stayed longer as I was frustrated and needed to catch that LMB that got away, but all I managed to snag were some weeds.

Cleaned the fish, and enjoyed them with just some flour, salt and pepper. Very tasty indeed except for that midline people talk about. But they were skinny and the filets were small.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone on this forum for all the reports, maps, tips, ideas and inspiration. Next time I will keep my head and take more photos I promise.

And let less fish get away [Smile]
