This year for our annual spring kayak trip I decided I wanted to do a little trout fishing. North Georgia has some great trout water and the Toccoa river is one of the best. For those that don't know the Toccoa turns into the Ocoee when it crosses the state line in McCaysville. This year our trip had two legs: a 14 mile overnighter on the upper Toccoa and after a night in Morganton Point Recreation Area on Blue Ridge Lake we finished with 7 miles of the lower Toccoa from Curtis Switch Road to McCaysville.

We put in at Deep Hole and were immediately rewarded with beautiful scenery and a brook trout for myself:

http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/1885/dscn4765x.jpg

http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/992/dscn4769j.jpg

http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/907/dscn4766a.jpg

Between the 3 of us we caught about 8 the first day, Christopher catching the biggest that made it to hand:

http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/1527/dscn4768m.jpg

I know I lost 2 that were bigger but that's how it goes sometimes. We found a great campsite and as we got settled in we were ready for a fresh trout dinner:

http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/1478/dscn4773t.jpg

http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/7343/dscn4784q.jpg

http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/3187/dscn4790e.jpg

How about that for a riverside dinner!

Satisfied customer:

http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/1203/dscn4786g.jpg

After dinner we did a map study to locate some landmarks to meet up at if we got away from each other:

http://img811.imageshack.us/img811/4020/dscn4779j.jpg

Saturday morning found us awake at about 7 and ready to start the day.

http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/2798/dscn4792u.jpg

The scenery on the second day was just as good as the first.

http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/8632/dscn4793w.jpg

http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/2285/dscn4794p.jpg

http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/4513/dscn4799n.jpg

http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/7756/dscn4803c.jpg

The fishing was a bit slower on the second day, but we weren't catching fish for dinner so it wasn't the end of the world. There were just enough rapids to keep it interesting when the fish weren't biting but even though it was slower we still caught about 12 between the 3 of us.
We got out at Sandy Bottoms and headed up to our second campsite by car on the shore of Blue Ridge Lake. It was the opening weekend for the campground and it was nice and quiet there, but being right on the shore I could see it getting loud and crowded real quick by Memorial Day.

http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/7585/dscn4808r.jpg

http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/6949/dscn4809g.jpg

http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/6981/dscn4810f.jpg

On Sunday morning we deposited our shuttle truck in McCaysville and headed back to our put in. The pictures are a lot thinner for the lower river because it wasn't as pretty, but I snapped a couple of fish I caught along the way:

http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/5696/dscn4818z.jpg

http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/9146/dscn4819o.jpg

Overall it was a fantastic trip. The weather and fish cooperated and nobody got hurt. Already excited to see where we go next year!
