Hey all,

I am planning a fishing trip this Saturday with my wife so we can get out and take advantage of the warm weather, but I am having trouble deciding where to go. The only positive report I have seen is from Lahonton, but because of the mercury warning, I would rather fish Rye Patch if people are catching anything there. Anybody have any reports on recent success/lack thereof at either of these spots? If so, would you mind sharing what worked and where? Thanks.

Depending on what you are looking for I highly recommend Mason Valley wildlife Area, this is about 25 miles South of Lahonton just outside of Yerington NV. They have a couple of trout ponds, Hinkson Slough and North Pond that have some big trout and big LMB. The Mason Valley hatchery stocks them regularly. The trout in my Avatar is out of Hinskson Slough. There is also the Fort Churchill cooling ponds and bass pond that have a lot of quality bass. North Pond is the only one you can get a boat on so you will be shore fishing. With the warming weather these may be a good bet. When i visit family in Fallon this one of my hot spots.

Thanks for the tip. Do you know how well one might do there with a regular ol' worm and sinker set up? I've got my wife into fishing, but not much past sitting bait and reading a book while she waits. (Plus I like to do that with my second pole.) If they're biting at all, I would prefer wipers and walleye to trout, but fish are fish.

Rye Patch is doin well !!! Im from that area of NV and got some friends that fish it regularly.. They have been doin well on walleye and a few wipers on the upper side of the dam and killin sum slabs up in pit taylor single tail grubs in neutral colors and live red shiners have been working well ..

Thanks for the tip. I should have gone there. Spent a couple hours at Lahontan and a couple more at the Fort Churchill cooling pond without a single bite, though I did see at least one pretty decent sized fish (think it was a bass) cruising in the cooling pond.

Is the lake still fishing well? Crappie fishing still good? Is there a boat ramp on pit taylor?

The launch at Pit Taylor is a dirt one!! A guy can do well just shore fishin for slabs in the pit no need for a boat yet the are still shallow. My buddy was fishing the upper part of the dam on monday and picked up 3 walleye and 1 spotted bass !!

[#000080]Actually the Pitt-Taylor ramp is cement, but I've noticed sand has washed onto it the past few years and mostly covered it, making it look dirt! The park hadn't moved the dock to match the water level when I was there last year either, which made for rather difficult boat launching/landing. Right now the lake is at about 67% capacity, but much more water is going out than in, and that isn't likely to change through the summer, so I bet the Pitt-Taylor ramp won't be useable after 4th of July. It's so much better here though for privacy, when the lake isn't full there's acres of beach to camp on wherever you like. I just wish they'd grade the road going in- I think the same washboards have existed for 10 years! I hope to go boating there in mid June.
