Went to Mantua Sunday morning with my son inlaw Joe. Upon arrival we saw a Osprey swoop down and snatch a trout from the water and fly off.(very cool[cool]).
Later in the morning I rowed my toon over to the east point to try for some Trout and saw the bird sitting on the bank and something wasn't right so I rowed slowly over to it and saw it had a trout with fishing line still attatched and a bobber all wrapped up in its feet and wings. The line was so badly wrapped up it was unable to walk or fly.
Long story short, got out of the toon took off my sweatshirt put it over the bird calming it down.
This bird was very cool, it allowed me to unwrap the line
and bobber from it. It didn't move or thrash around a bit.
After getting about 6 feet of line off of it I picked it up and sat it on the dirt road next to the bank and just a minuet or two it took off ! No harm done!
The only picture we took was when my sweatshirt was over it. Sorry I didnt think to snap any pics before it took off.
The fish was slow. Skunko for me 0 Bass. 3 trout for Joe.
Still was a great day!

The big question is.......

does the trout count towards your limit? [crazy]

Good Job! I love watching the osprey down at Salem pond and out at Utah Lake, when they're out there.

That is awesome. Great story. I love ospreys and there's nothing cooler to see then them coming down to grab a fish.

You're the second person I've heard from that hit Mantua Sunday with little love on the line. Surprising with it being so warm. Would have hoped for better. Did you see any bass/gills setting up shop in the shallows?

Well bud - you've definitely got your good carma points for the week. Just gotta be careful that your carma doesn't run over your dogma, and you'll be stylin![cool]
That's nice that he was willing to sit still for ya. Musta known it's goose was cooked if it didn't get some help.
Wonder how Osprey taste? Osprey Pot Pie? (kidding!)

Did he give you his trout as thanks? At least you got a bobber, right?!

Think it was Mantua where someone hookup up a Grebe and was able to free it up. Looked so cute and pathetic looking up from their net. Had that Puss-n-Boots big baby eyes expression.

nice work.

Hey a Yote! Mister Osprey look a little more tired and Angry than your little guy.[Wink] Had no fight left in him though.
The trout was dead but i chucked it back out in the water ,to add its protein to the Mantua collective. There was no resistance.
As far as the Bass and Blue Gills I didnt see or feel a single one. I spent about 7 hours there looking for them with very poor results. I hope the tent city that was out this winter didnt catch them all.
Think the water just need to get warmer...

[#0000ff]Can you imagine the story the osprey had to concoct for the Mrs. when he showed up without his trout? Think she believed him?[/#0000ff]

Sure glad you didn't get tagged by the talons! That would have really ruined your day. Cudo's to you for taking the risk to do a good deed to a fellow 'fisher'.

Well done, glad you saved it. Would have been a Sad and slow way to go. You get a gold star for the day, for sure. [Smile]
