Yep Sad but true, ice fishin in the wasatch is over. I wanted a big trip today and well I sorta got one.......

Lake Blanche - My twin and I met up with Bscuird and Charlie at 9am. We hit the S curves and put the skis and boots on the packs while Bscuird had snowshoes on his pack. We hiked 3/4ths of a mile to see a hiker coming down. He stated the snow started just before the lake.

Not what we wanted to hear! Well the debate started. We could leave the ski gear in the brush and carry on or go elsewhere. Well Charlie had on slippers and Evil TyeDye had crappy shoes for snow so it was back to the trailhead where Lake Mary was to be done. I refused defeate and said I'd be back Friday with snowshoes to get my adventure......or so I thought.
Lake Mary - 15 mins up the pegs on my bindings kept slipping. [shocked] Well I went to lock the heel as a test and it wouldn't lock! [shocked][shocked] Oh crap the binding was broken and cracked! [shocked][shocked][shocked]Well I hiked back down with Bscuird while ETDT skied down. Charlie switch to backcountry skiing and said he'd meet us at Silver Lake. Or so he thought!

Silver Lake - EvilTyeDye walked 30 feet out on the rotten ie when BAM he went through on one leg up to his knee. We tried several other spots and none were supportable. Everywhere the ice was bad and rotten.

Big Cottonwood River - Desperate to fish we hit the BCR. I caught 1 and had 10 bites before Charlie called and wondered where we went. He told me that Lake Mary was bad ice too. Therfore it is easy to put two and two together that Lake Blanche would be bad too.

Charlie left and the 3 of us fished on till 3pm. I caught 5 total and lost 10 and the other guys got skunked. I needed a smaller spinner. I was using a roostertail spinner in gold size 1/8th and a blue fox gold spinner in size#1. The largest one I lost was 14 inches. Oh well.

Well it was just my twin and I so we stopped at home for lunch and debated where to go. Little Dell was on the agenda as we have missed that place. We arrived to see the gate open! Whoops left the worms and bait at home though.

East Canyon - Played for 2 hours all around the lake. Literally! Tried for bass and mostly trout. NOTHING BIT! Spinners, lures, rapalas, senko worms, etc. By the end we were fishing off a 35 foot ledge wondering if we should throw our gear or ourselves off for going there! It was extremely full pool, drastically different from Little Dell. The $1,000 camera wouldn't read SD cards after 7pm. That was the worst part of the day.

There will be hiking adventures and a few Mtn. Biking adventures this year for the pretty brookies but the ice is done. Dam and I really wanted to ice fish in May!

I am just glad the binding gave way after my vacation last week or so. To think that the binding could have given out while on vacation is a nightmare! Considering that is how my twin blew his ACL last year it really gives me the chills.

We literally bailed on the last day of skiing out at the tushars as it was too stormy looking. Pretty sure it would have died that day.

We almost headed to Great Basin National Park for some backcountry skiing but our gas funds went bust, Fish Lake was great though! Lucky as the memory of Fish Lake would beat a GBNP binding break any day!

Guess it was nice to have the good camera on the vacation too.

One good adventure I recommend for when you guys hit the jordan this year is come out to saratoga springs and park at the pump house. Bring your bikes and ride the trail, bring a backpack that will let you pack your tackle box and fishing pole or bring a extra lil bike trailer and fish the river. Theres over 100 really good spots that are never fished from saratoga springs to thanksgiving point in lehi.

You still got the Uinitas for a few more weeks. Here's a few pics from Monday at 10,000 ft and just slightly over an hour drive from SLC. That open strip of water is 6-8 ft wide and runs a good hundred feet along the shore. However that lake ices off the earliest of all the lakes in the vicinity and most are still solid.

Oh I have not forgotten my lover Little Dell. Thinking I am getting a season pass there this year. Totally worth it!

So how was the road to get up there? My car slides out in rain so I need clear roads.

You shouldn't have much of a problem. You don't need AWD/4WD to make it. It was plowed to just before mile 25 on Monday and a plow was headed up to do more as I came down.
