Havent been keeping up on my posts, but over the past two weeks I have taken 5-6 trips up to causey. Water temp has been around 47-49 degrees, with the water clarity being very poor. I have been running the downrigger to around 15 feet, trolling for kokanee until the battery is drained on my canoe, then fishing far into the middle inlet for tigers and bows. I have been trolling dodgers and flashers followed by RMT squids, assassins, and Mac wedding rings. The first line rigged around 15-20 feet deep, and the second rigged on a stacker around 5 feet deep. I think the key might be fishing in more stable weather, and letting the water temps rise a bit.
Havent boated a single kokanee, but did manage to hook/lose one along with several hookups (which could have been trout or splake). Have caught several Rainbows long lining small spinners about 20 feet behind the boat. Three way swivels with teardrop weights have not produced any fish, and it is difficult to figure how much line is out and how deep the lure is. I have had success in the inlets fishing with worms and powerbait when the water is clear. Farther into the inlets, where the streams feed into the lake, I have thrown my tackle box at them, and lures with fluttering action have done the best. I usually end up catching rainbows in the 12-13” range, with the largest of the year being 15”. Also caught one small tiger and had one splake come unbuttoned. Oh yeah, and water levels are very high right now.

Thanks for the update, Carl. We have yet to catch a koke. ::Confusedigh::: But hopefully we can before we move! I hear it's pretty impossible to catch them from shore, so maybe I can get a battery for my li'l boat...$$$$$....

Thanks again for the report [Smile]

Well no skunk on fish in general but I guess on the salmon though it was a bust. I wished I had a motor for my pontoon.

I don't know much about the kokes except I caught a bunch 2 years ago ice fishing there but I recommend going deeper with the downrigger. That and do you have a sonar or fish finder?

That might help you narrow down what depth to fish. I guess if the batteries die and you are in a hot spot try vertical jigging them too.
