Hello.
Never been on the Colorado site before. I'll be taking a business trip to the Longmont area in late May to early June. I might have some time in the evenings to do a little fishing. What kind of opportunities await me?

that is about what I had to say about the activeness of the colorado forum. There are a lot of smaller local ponds or lakes to fish within the city. If you venture out of the city, some the the creeks and rivers flowing out of the mountains are great fishing.
in the Longmont area you have union, panama and foster reservoirs.
I personally like staying on the creeks, the fishing has been better with my fly then anything else lately

Lagerman Res., Boyd Lake, St. Vrain River, Boulder Creek, Boulder Res., lots of places around Longmont. Check back as your trip gets closer.

What can you tell me about Carter Lake?
Also considering bringing a rifle to shoot some prairie dogs, but the regs aren't exactly clear to me. Looks like PD's on public land are closed? Is it hard to get access to private land to shoot PD's?

Carter is a very good (not necessarily "easy") walleye fishery and is managed for trophy walleyes. The special limit is 3 eyes, no more than 21" long. It has trout and LMB, too. It's managed by Larimer County and there is a daily fee of $7.00 per vehicle and an additional $7.00 per day for a boat. Those fees are in addition to your Colorado fishing license. It's best from a boat, but there is some shore access. Standard walleye lures and baits. Bennett's Tackle (970) 532-2213) is just 12 miles or so north of Longmont in Berthoud, CO. Great place to pick up bait and up to date local info.

if it were me i would stick to the upper stretches of st vrain or make the trip over to south parks big 3 and also fish the dream stream.... as far as the prarie dogs go, take a look at the reg for anything near limon or east of there.... used to be back in the day you could kill as many as you want and let them lay, but that info is likely outdated by 10 to 15 years
