BOSTON, MA—This summer, researchers at Massachusetts' Marine Biological Laboratory looked into using sunfish to control mosquitoes.
Researchers say the fish could penetrate remote areas that are difficult to reach with pesticides, killing more mosquitoes for less money and deterring mosquito-borne diseases like the West Nile virus.
Massachusetts hasn't yet approved stocking sunfish for mosquito control, however, as state officials must be convinced the fish won't disrupt the local ecology.
