My son and I went jeeping into some mid level Uinta lakes off the Mirror lake highway. I was surprised we made it in as far as we did, not a lot of snow up there for this time of year. The first lake we came to was frozen which was a bummer because the jeep worked hard getting us there. We came back to a more popular lake and found a little bit of open water where the stream came in. We managed to catch a bunch of small brookies and two goldens. After that we went down to the Duchesne river and caught a bunch more small brookies. Great day with my son and luckily we didn't get stuck and have to spend the night. Here are a few pictures of our adventure.

Nice report. I miss having my old Jeep. I still make it in to some of the places near where I imagine you went, including down to the Duchesne East Portal, and have caught some nice brookies. I can't wait to get some more snow gone so I can make a trip up that way soon.

Nice golden! I can't believe you got that high already! Last year on July 5th I had to park my truck about 1/4 mile above the turn-off to your golden area and walk the next couple miles over deep drifts just to get to the lake. When I got there it was still 75% frozen!
I fished a lake a little lower today (9,300'). Caught a ton of brookies but they were quite small. Biggest might have stretched to 12".

Jeepnut thanks for punching the hole through the snow and mud that last quarter mile for me[Wink]. Without that I would have had to park my Subaru down below and walked the rest to the lake today. My son and I also each caught a golden trout today. My son had another on but it came off before he landed it. I got one last year but didn't get a pic and my son didn't get one so it was nice for both of us to land one today. It took me all of 10 minutes and my son about 45 minutes to land our goldens. The sun came out a bit more and fishing was slowing so we left after an hour and a half. The brookies were pretty as well. My son is a better fisherman than photographer so my fish is a bit blurry. The second fish he's holding is also my fish.

That last drift took a few runs at it to bust through, the water under the drift made it a pain. Glad you had success. I was surprised we made it in so early.
