My son and I traveled to the Preston area and checked out the fishing for crappie, bass and bluegill. We saw a few 8-10" bass in the shallows. There were two or three parties bass fishing in the shallows around the willows. Moderate success catching largemouth bass. We saw no bluegill in the shallows yet. Next we traveled over to Winder Reservoir. On the upper end near the "Glory Hole" which is a very deep hole is where the water comes in to Winder, we caught about a dozen hand sized bluegill for dinner. Most were females in pre-spawn mode. There were a few bass mixed in but they wouldn't bite anything. From there we traveled over to Condie Res. but my son wasn't too impressed so we didn't fish there. Two young fishermen in their twenties were fishing with small spinners for largemouth bass. They said they saw a few bass but they weren't biting. Next stop was at Glendale. We saw a few 10-12" largemouth bass in the shallows in a small bay on the northeast end of the res. No bluegill or crappie in the shallows. The water was a little cold at all the lakes. Seems we were just a little early for crappie spawning and most of the bluegill were still out in deeper water in pre-spawn mode. We caught the bluegill at Winder on a hook and pinch of nightcrawler just cast into the water. They would rush at the bait as a school of fish. There was lots of dinky 3" bluegill around the brush as well. One party consisting of a father and two sons about ages 10 and 12 were fishing in pontoons for trout at the upper end of Glendale Res while flyfishing. They caught two trout.
