Going to Powell this weekend. I've never been there. What is fishing well right now and how do I do it? Yeah I know it is a HUGE lake and it all depends where we are, but I'm going with zero - zip - zilch knowledge. But with you all having my back, I hope to have something.

What end of the lake are you going to base yourself out of? And what species do you want to target? I could tell us some basics. Get some frozen anchovies and some 1/8th oz or 1/4oz jig heads. Cut up some bait and use the pieces that have better hook holding properties (like the skull and tail). Any pieces that won't stay on a hook will become your "chum"

Throw a few handfuls of chum out and gently cast your bait so that the chovy doesn't fling off. (anchovies are really soft if they thaw out so keep them as frozen as you can for as long as you can.). Then just let it sit while you drink a beer. You will feel the fish pick it up and run with it. The POP'em.

Night is usually better but I have been successful in the middle if the day doing this.

White jigs work well bounced off the bottom fishing around points and canyon intersections. Also deep diving crank baits in white or gold have always produced. Hope this helps. Also check out Wayne's words for some great up to date information.

First off, go to wayneswords.com and read and read and read. Second, look around here, tons of posts that will get you up to speed on the lake.

I was there last week and didn't catch many fish until we moved into the real shallow water around brush and the largemouths were on! We caught several 2-3lb bucketmouths, almost exclusively on a watermelon senko rigged wacky on a drop shot. That was the first morning and that afternoon we had some motor issues that ended the trip. fishing will change quickly down there now as the bass spawn wraps up, you're going to have to change your game until you catch fish.

Good hope bay is the place to be right now if you can get there.
