Throw this open, by close, not on a road, has to be hiked to, even a short hike or even up to a day in and out hike, about 3-5 miles.

So what is the best short hike or day hike, area, general area or specific lake area in the Uintas?

My 2 cents for a starter.

The Three Divide Lakes above Cliff and Clyde, because so many lakes and great scenery.

Also Packard Lake on the Highline Trail.

Island Lake east out of the Crystal Lake Trailhead has always been a favorite day-hike. The lake is beautiful with grassy areas surrounding it and a granite cliff to the north west, which, if one is stealthy, can be used to site-cast to larger fish cruising the surface. Max depth is 40 feet, so a chance for some of those fish to get reasonably big. Lots of bays and points (including, surprise, an island) add to the variety of approaches and techniques.

It is beautiful, I've not done that well there, but then it has just been a quick stop. I will have to plan to stay there. Good comment

Little Hidden just past the Divide Lakes can be good for decent brookies. North Erickson is just an easy 3 miles from Upper Setting and can be fairly good fishing also.
None of the Uinta lakes were stocked with brook trout last year. This should make for some larger, albeit fewer brook trout in many of the lakes. I like it!!
