What are your individual opinions on Ugly Stick rods? I have been using them for years and love them. But it seems like some are poorly made these days. The ones in the reel/rod combos are the worst. The ones with cork are the best.
Just curious what the take is? They are definitely a popular pole!

proffits superseeds quality, in effort to make product cheeper to increase proffits for retailers and stock holders quality suffers in most every thing.
my rule of thumb is, never buy the cheepest product on the shelf. you will get what you pay for. [:p]
other than that, I do like ugly sticks, have a cople my self.[cool]

I own two and like them a lot for my salt water fishing. Like the clown says, the big retailers go to the manufacturer and say build me a rod at this price point. [ Home Depot Trick] So the quality isn't there for the lower end price range. Yep, you get what you pay for. But I would buy another one at the upper end.

The combo's are cheaper made. I currently run the 5ft spinning combo rod with a abu garcia cardinal. Rod is alot cheaper looking than my $30 6ft uglies. Still no complaints it still holds up just fine. Actually caught a 50lb alligator snapper on the light action 5 footer with 30lb powerpro. Now yes the more higher end stiks like the ugly stik tiger 7ft with fuji eyes are way better quality. Ive never actually owned the cork handled ones but they look decent. Basspro has some awesome $200 ugly stiks 6ft with the steel roller guide eyes, i want too combo one of those with a decent lever drag for my newest Big Cat Setup.

I fly fish only, but if I were to buy a spinning rod, no doubt hands down it would be an Ugly Stick. I see how my nephew treats these poles and seen what he catches with them and they never break, but sensitive as heck.

there is one in a body of water in my area that weighs 200 lbs if he weighs an ounce. He downed a 50lb stringer on me one night..
