I had intended to fish the dogfight out of CFP, but my partner cancelled on me at the last moment. I decided to simply try and find a pattern that might carry over to the weekend. I started out where I had fished last Saturday night, and the result was one little 15 inch fish. About 7:30, I decided to try something different and it started to work. Caught a 2.5, 2.8, 3.7, 4.2 and several other that touched the 15 inch line. Finally about dark, I was winding down and decided to make one last cast. At first I though I was hung-up until the line kept moving and the hawg jumped. My heart started thumping as the big fish peeled line running under the boat and jumping on the other side. I worked her back to the boat and after several minutes finally was able to get her into the rubber net and into the boat. My inital thought was WOW!. I quickly unhooked her and placed her in the livewell. My intial thought was to carry her back to the park and have Gary Hughes weigh her on his scales, but after the long fight I knew the fish was already stressed. I looked in the livewell and she seemed to be lethargic. At this point I decided to weigh her on my scales, take a few pictures with my old camera with its timer, and put her back into the water asap. When I first put her on the scales, the scales continued to jump to 8.2. I know my scales are a little off so I settled at 8 pounds. Took a few pics and slowly placed her back into the water, and moved her just a little before letting go. She sat there for second then picked up speed and ran away. I was also happy that my second largest fish had swallowed a hook, but I was able to cut off the barb with diagonal cutters and easily remove the hook.
Great night on the lake. Ran back to CFP and showed the pic to Gary, who said he thought the fish was bigger than what the scales said. This fish was much bigger than the 6.95 I caught in a CFF TX several years ago and I was happy to see her swim away.
All fish were caught in 2-5 feet of water on Lake Fork Ring Fry on Trokar hook, 12 pound McCoy Fluorocarbon.
With that said...I will do well to catch three bream on Saturday!
