Derek and I started the morning flipping and pitching shallow water. Most folks today went deep and deep cranked, c-rigged, TN-rigged, spooned, jigged or swim baited but we went against the grain and stayed shallow. There are a lot of fish deep right now but there are still plenty that are working shallow flats, grass edges and first drops. Those are where we put our efforts and attention to. I also would bet we had a lot more relaxing day then those who went deep did. 
They fought the big boats, jet skiers, battleships...you name it...they were out there today. Summer is for sure here. We on the other hand stayed shallow out of the main stream and other then it getting really hot in mid afternoon we had a great time and trip. We thought we were one more 4 lber from a check today and that is exactly where we landed. We had on my scales a 4/9, 4/2, 4/0, 3/7 and 3/2 we weighed in, on mine that would be 19 lbs and 4 ozes, on the CBA scales we had 19.36 lbs. emoThumbsup There was three ties in the money so actually 15 boats got a check today. We came in 19th. 
Got some good points and a $25 gift card but no check today. We caught bass on spooks, worms, shakeys and beavers. I lost track of the numbers we boated but I would guess about 50 bass today would be in the ball park. emoThumbsup Lots of 2 to 3 lbers but not many over that. It took 19.99 lbs to get a check so we were not far off.<br /><br />Like I said, we focused our attention to edges. The edges of grass lines starting to come up. The edges of drops first out from the spawning flats. The edges of some structure where we found shad working. We caught fish from as shallow as 2 feet to as deep as about 12 feet. So you can see we were not fishing deep. I did hit one place where I usually have a good jig bite and it is about 30 feet. Worked it for fifteen minutes and had one about two and a half pounds which at that time would not help us. While we were on that spot we had a whole fleet of boats come by and I told Derek I had enough of that...we headed back to shallow more peaceful waters.<br /><br />It took right at 23 lbs to win today and like I mentioned right at 20 to get a check. We ended up with 86 boats I believe that fished this one. emoThumbsup <br /><br />C-ya on the water.... emoAngler Jmax
