Did anyone even try for bluegill around Preston
this weekend?

Monday I caught a few but the water temp was still a little down. Today the bluegill caught fire as the water temps climbed. I had to leave at noon, but we were catching them with surface poppers all morning long. (At Johnson)

Headed to Twin Lakes tomorrow for my first
trip this year. I will try for a little of everything.

Let us know how it turns out I've been wanting to try Twin all year and still haven't made it. Don't know if you like trout or not but I'm curious how they are doing this year, are there still some nice sized ones left? Thanks J

Two of us fished for blue gill and caught about 150.
We only kept enough for a fish fry. We did not catch
a trout nor did we see anyone fishing for them. The gills
were by far the biggest we have ever caught at Twin.

You intersted in running away from Utah's free fishing day Saturday like I am? Tempted to go try Twin, or one of the many others.... but I've never been there, so that's always intimidating.
It's a pretty simple place to fish this time of year. Fish up in the flooded trees and brush. Get back in it as far as possible. You should get into gills, crappie and bass that way.

Wow that really sounds like fun thanks for the reply. I hear that blue gill are great to eat but they take me so long to prepare I usually send them back home to keep swimming. I smoked a few last year and they were so much smaller than the eyes that I smoked in the same batch that I made really hard jerky out of them. They were okay but I'd like to try them a different way next time. Glad you had a great day. Later J

Hey Yote, I wish I could go fish this weekend but I've got to play farmer and catch up this weekend. My day job has kept me too busy and too many events at night this last week so I've got to get some water on the barley but I may sneak out on Cutler between sets.

Don't be too intimidated by Twin it's fairly easy access and it has always been easy to find the fish for me. But I do like the trout so I can't speak for the warm water species. But it has lots of cover around the edges and I've seen some real nice bass in there. Seemed like to me last year that it had a lot more warm water fishermen than trout fishermen in fact I think I was the only one after trout the last time I was there. There is an access fee I don't remember how much it was but it wasn't too bad. Camping spots are a little tight but I just day trip it so for me I really like the area.

Hey I went to the DWR open house last night and was the only one that showed up so I gave then my thoughts. I think I'll post one of those on the Utah forum later today let me know what you think? Later J
