Jordan River - At 5pm I received a call from BFT's In2Fishing that he knew of a walleye spot that he'd take me to. I was on it like stink on shiz and out of the door in minutes! By 6pm we arrived. I tossed a gold swimbait of tube dudes for 30mins and lost one fish. Then I switched to a fire tiger crank from tube dude....

BAM 1st cast it was assaulted by a 24 inch walleye! I got him netted and was one happy camper! A few casts later I nailed another walleye at 20 inches and beached him without the net. Tense but luckily he didn't snap off! For the next 3 hours we saw others catch walleyes but In2Fishing and his girlfriend remained skunked till I left a 9pm. We ran into his buddy lucas and his kid that I saw land a bluegill.

We shall see how they taste. I just cleaned them, cheek meat and all. I am free to fish sunday dude. We should get together and slay the fish again!

You get a Grayling off the bucklist....so the next avalible day I go up there to get one and what happens....you get another species off the bucket list! At this rate I will never catch up. Can't wait to eat him. Hey TD....should we fry it or what?

[cool][#0000ff]Pretty hard to mess up walleye. They are mild with big white flakes. Don't cover them up with too much batter or get too heavy on the spice. But a light batter and frying is about as good as it gets.[/#0000ff]

Not trying to rock the boat or anything. But is there any health issues from eating fish from the Jordan? I remember going to help clean up along a section behind some businesses and saw some nasty stuff that was dumped illegally. I guess from seeing that and hearing about how bad it used to be just kinda scares me from eating fish from there. But then again I know there has been some big strides to clean up the river. Not trying to hijack the post or anything but was just kinda curios.

I am sure there would be a consumption advisory if it were truly that bad. I have eaten lots of white bass outta there and I can say the only bad thing I have read about it is a low oxygen problem on some sections. I did wade out there to retrieve my lures....I'm not glowing.

[cool][#0000ff]The Jordan River is monitored closely. If you watch the news you will often see brief blurbs about the officials finding something coming into the river and doing an immediate track down and cleanup. It is not the open sewer that it was in decades past.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]That being said, there was a more recent problem when they found that the "waste water" from one of the new developments around 7200 south had been routed directly into the Jordan River rather than into the sewer system. My understanding is that it has been long corrected and is no longer an issue. Tests for coliform bacteria show minimal concentrations. If it were higher they would issue warnings. Probably a lot worse from swimmers and water skiers on Jordanelle or Deer Creek.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The Jordan River generally has a pretty good flow and flushes itself out several times a day. The water is from Utah Lake which is actually cleaner than some of the high mountain waters in the state. Just because it was once subject to a lot of dumping and pollution it still has a bad reputation. But the only "pollution" is that it is shallow and gets muddy when the wind blows.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The carp and large catfish in the Utah Lake and Jordan River systems have been found to have elevated levels of PCBs and it is not recommended that people eat them. Okay by me. But all other species have been found to be well within safe levels for all potential harmful chemicals. No mercury at all...which is the uneducated lament of a lot of Utah Lake haters. If you want mercury in your walleyes go to Salmon Falls Creek Reservoir in Idaho. Off the chart.[/#0000ff]
