Went to Willow pond today with my kids and had no luck. Anyone have any good places I can take young kids with plenty of action to keep their interest? Also anyone know if Decker lake is any good?

I fished Decker LK a couple of weeks ago and caught several small carp that I kept for catfish bait. I caught them on a worm under a bobber. It was not real fast fishing but I was only looking for bait. I have since turned some of those carp into catfish.

I fish willow pond off and on.If your kids are young and just want to catch anything I recommend getting some small number 14-16 fly and just fish for the bluegill that are in the shallows. I have attached a photo of willow. I have noted the areas with arrows of where I have personally seen blue gill on beds. They may not be big but if you have young kids it can be entertaining. I use a fly rod with floating or sinking line but they could use any kind of rod and more or less cane fish with a rod length of line. I will recommend bright colors that are easy for the kids so see. occasionally they can get lucky and get a slimmer just passing by like my nephew got the other day. just make sure to have some hemostats or needle nose pliers to get the hooks out. you can bend down the barb to make it easier to release if you want to teach them about catch and release. If they want to keep some thing, I would use a bugger about 4 feet under a clear bubble half or quarter filled with water and cast out and let it sit for a moment and slowly retrieve, pausing intermittently.

If you check out the dwr community fisheries booklet there are a lot of places to fish throughout the valley. You can use power bait, worms or whatever lure floats you boat. just check out the regs, and try one. Check out the stocking reports if you want to improve your chances. if they stocked it within the last week you have better chances.

I do tie my own flies and if you ever want a few to try, pm me and I can get a few that work.
